I have just learned that Mountain Goats are NOT, in fact, actual Goats.
I have never heard of this band. I AM in fact referring to the animal.
But wait, there’s more!
I hear being kind is punk but is it ska? Is being kind ska? I don't care about being kind unless it's ska.
fuck i need to amend the list
this is all getting so complex :/
my controversial opinion is I don’t think Zuko was confused by “my first girlfriend turned into the moon”
he was there during siege of the North. he infiltrated the spirit oasis. he has an uncle who studies spirits and the spirit world. he watched the sky go dark then the moon suddenly reappear like everyone else in the entire world did. and most importantly he watched zhao get eaten by a giant godzilla fish spirit.
his entire life since he saw that beam of blue-white light in the south pole has been ‘this day has already been so goddamn weird’
The only really new information was that that was Sokka’s girlfriend
Important opinion in the tags that I need to have be part of the post:
Also, Iroh was there? He literally watched Sokka make out with the moon spirit. And you want to tell me that a romantic sap like him would not have immediately told Zuko about this romantic tragedy? Please, Zuko has known about this for ages, he just knows that this is not an acceptable situation in which to say “yeah, I know.”
Sokka: “My girlfriend turned into the moon.”
Zuko: “I know.” “Yes.” “She sure did.” “Uh huh.” “Tell me something new.” “Are we still talking about that?” “That’s rough, buddy.”
[image: tags by samwisethebold: #it’s not that he doesn’t get what sokka means #it’s that how on earth do you respond to that]
When you put it like that, this is actually a legendary display of tact on Zuko’s part
I appreciate how the GOP response to affordability and the cost of living crisis is now “take the L, broke loser, we hate you” that sort of honesty in politics is so rare.
Marie Antoinette never actually said “Let them eat cake.” but these guys keep getting on the stage at rallies and saying that and get booed off.

the increasing tendency in the last few years to use identities and descriptors as defensive statements or like, Marks Of Innocence is. really fucking odd. like, rather than 'I didn't do that and your statement is false', it's 'you're literally attacking a trans person'; i've seen people write 'i'm literally a minor' to try and avoid being held responsible for any type of action. i don't know! i find it really strange. it's possible to be vulnerable or to be from a minority group and also, additionally, be an asshole.
This one time I was reading the notes of a post (I know, I know, NEVER read the notes) where someone was talking about how gender-policing negatively affected both cis and trans women. (The post did not minimise the struggle of trans women specifically at all.) Someone in the notes got incredibly angry that they were ‘appropriating trans women’s struggles’ by bringing up cis women at all, and someone else (not the OP) responded to this ‘trans women only’ person and called them ‘she’ -- their gender hadn’t been mentioned or indicated at all, it was a guess, probably weighted by the context of the conversation.
Did this person (who turned out to be a trans man) say, ‘actually I’m a guy’ and move on? No. They WENT OFF about how this other person in the comments had ‘misgendered me’, like this understandable wrong guess was a malicious act. The other person apologised and attempted to move on, but oh no, that couldn’t happen. This was a clear indication that the other person was evil, daring to misgender a trans person (again, this was a completely unintentional wrong guess that was immediately apologised for and not repeated), and not only that, the OP was evil for ‘allowing their followers to misgender me’ (the OP had not been involved in this conversation at all, nor was their any indication over whether either participant followed them. It was two random Tumblr users having a discussion in the notes of this one post. Nothing to do with OP). This proved that the OP and this person supporting them were evil transphobes, see, and proved that ‘all women are negatively affected by gender policing’ was an evil transphobic thing to say and shouldn’t be talked about.
Was any of this discussion remotely useful for any purpose? No. It was just a derail of a legitimate discussion by someone deciding to invent new transphobia and misogyny so they could use invented victimisation in their personal game of oppression olympics, instead of usefully discussing the actual transphobia and misogyny that the post was about. Someone using their identity as a trap to try to bully random people on the internet via ‘I think Coolsville sucks’-style invented attacks when there are very real transphobes and misogynists out there to focus on instead. All it did was make a bunch of people -- including the person stirring up the drama! -- very angry for no reason.
This is happening all the goddamned time on this website. It’s impossible to have a useful conversation when people in it keep trying to treat parts of their identity like a team of pokemon to defeat the Possibly Less Oppressed Person’s identity instead of actually discussing the relevant issues.
i will never be against piracy ever but i also need physical media to remain
the average blockbuster carried about 3x as many films than that that are streaming on Netflix or any other streaming service, physical media along with piracy is more important than ever.
I thought this wasn’t true, because how could it be true? How could one small store have more movies than an online database? So I googled it.
I am surprised and depressed to learn it’s 100% true, according to google. A Blockbuster store was required to have a minimum of 7000 titles, but most averaged about 10,000. Netflix has 4000 movies. (And 1800 tv shows if you want to count those, but even included, it’s still less)
Now I’m even more depressed about the collapse of physical rental stores.
BONUS: They weren't beholden to Who Owns What IP Right Now. They got videos from everyone. You didn't have to pay separately for the rights to rent from the Disney Shelves and the WB Shelves and bler bler bler, and they only STOPPED having those movies when the tapes broke or someone never returned 'em.
friendly reminder that your local library will have lots of physical media and if they don't have what you're looking for you can most likely ask them to purchase it or order it from another library through interlibrary loan
Shoutout to Scarecrow Video- they have over 148,000 titles, most of which you can rent by mail if you live in the US. Rentals have been down in the last few years so they're asking for support!
i love learning about animals ive literally never seen or heard of before. what amazing diversity of life on this planet earth. what the hell is a japanese serow
goat dog
Oh this is an excellent new beaft. Look at that thang. I'll take a dozen
Profoundly unserious, yet strangely majestic. Much like us all.......
When I was in therapist school one of my profs said, "A lot of trauma needs 10 or 20 years before it's really ready to be worked through. Maybe longer." And at the time I was like: Oh Shit. I planned to be over my trauma and all better by the time I graduated!
Anyway, that was 10 or 20 years ago and jesus fuck, she was right.

Reblog if you are Bad Queer Representation.
sorry i never replied. everyday is blending together and i'm losing sense of time
Quilt guild president: the summer quilt challenge. As you know it is the 250th anniversary-
Guild: -chilly silence-
President: so the challenge to you all is a quilt with your interpretation and/or feelings towards our current “democracy”
Guild: 👏👏👏
President: I know this bunch. I am sure you will come up with something spectacular, and it will probably get angrier as the summer progresses. Full quilt, mini quilt. Go wild, release some emotions.
How I spent my July 4th.
Appliqué almost done. Then onward to the background stitching
At the start I thought stitching “fuck you I won’t do what you tell me” for the last quarter would be therapeutic
I was correct.
Close to finishing the top. Now I gotta figure out how I want to quilt it.
I have one more line of embroidery and I think it needs to be bolder and messier than I started it.
Hard to tell in this light, and without ironing it, that the embroidery does get gradually bolder as it goes. Two strands at the top versus 5 at the bottom (6 for the started to be redone final line).
Not bad for first time doing appliqué.
Still need to decide how I want to quilt it.
I'm gonna be honest 'cowboys were a sort of itinerant warrior class common in meiji-era texas' always annoys me a bit because it's a funny post but also No They Weren't. They were an itinerant pastoralist class common in Meiji-era Texas. And indeed the wider western region of post-Risorgimento America
While primarily pastoralists, cowboys are often depicted in conflict with the native peoples of the region, as well as armed bandits, primarily made up of unemployed veterans of the defeated Confederate shogunate. A typical cowboy settlement was ruled by a lord called a sheriff*, assisted by his armed retainers, called deputies. Modern depictions of cowboy society often focus on the sheriff and his men, with minimal attention paid to the peasants they rule. Alternately, bounty hunters, or ronin deputies, may serve as the protagonists in these stories.
*Similar to Japan, the official title used by the lord and his retainers varied from settlement to settlement. Alternate titles included marshall, ranger, or just lawman.
The drama! The skill! The cinematography! It's ART! IT'S ALL ART!!
