The new EHRC Code of Practice pushes trans people out of toilets, hospital wards, and community spaces. It normalises gender policing based on appearance and stereotypes. It becomes statutory guidance in the UK by the end of June.

Trans people are now legally their assigned gender at birth and must join gendered spaces accordingly, but if they are perceived as their lived gender, they can also be ejected from those spaces. The guidance says: either break the law, or don’t pass too well.

A mass lobby is where you invite your MP to discuss your concerns with you in-person. Ask your MP to:

Demand full parliamentary scrutiny, debate, and use their free vote on the EHRC Code of Practice.

Support any motions rejecting the EHRC guidance. As of June 4th, Labour MP Nadia Whittome has submitted a prayer motion - Early Day Motion 240.

Typing this from Graphene now, in fact. But, both of those take the Android Open Source Project, without all the bloatware--and largely de-Google the whole thing. They give you much more control over privacy and what the apps you choose to install can do and access on your phone.

I know Graphene sandboxes everything, including the optionally installed Google Play Services which a lot of apps unfortunately require to run. (Lineage uses an alternative to Play Services instead.) So, you can install what would normally be unacceptably intrusive apps and just lock them away from pulling any funny shit with your data, or phoning home. Including the couple of Google things I do still keep around.

I also prefer running much more transparent, privacy-respecting open source apps where possible. Besides the transparency, I'd rather avoid the shitty tech corps entirely where I can. There are pretty good alternatives available for a lot of the usual suspects.

there's a "medical frailty" exemption that "encompasses anyone with a serious medical condition or a disability that significantly impairs their ability to live or comply with the requirements." downside: what actually counts will depend on your state

its not an 80 hr paid work requirement, the 80 hrs can include school hours and volunteer work OR you can meet the minimum earnings of 80*minimum wage aka ~$580 per month (so if you have an above min wage part time job, you don't have to fight for 80 hrs to still qualify)

will a comment actually do anything? I don't know. But agencies are legally required to review them, so SOMEONE in the agency has to at least read it.

Stop scrolling

Things are bad for trans folks in the UK right now. A hate organisation playing dress-up as a human rights org called the EHRC that the government uses to create advice on following the equality act and surrounding legal infrastructure issued a code of practice for businesses last year following the ruling that the equality act's definition of woman and lesbian does not include trans women. This code was only a draft, meant to tell businesses what legally complying with this ruling would look like, and would have encouraged businesses to act as gender police in bathrooms and other "single sex" spaces, creating a very unsafe environment for trans people, massively infringing on our rights to exist as ourselves in public. It is this generation's Section 28. It is segregation and it is part of the ongoing trans genocide by the UK government.

After a mass lobby, many people writing to their MPs, the goodlawproject getting involved, and warnings from the UN and many human rights orgs and businesses, our equalities minister rejected the draft. However, a new version just released that she has approved, and it's almost identical to the original. This guidance confusing, contradictory, and dangerous. And we have less than 40 days to convince our MPs to vote against it.

What you can do 🏳️‍⚧️

Attend the mass lobby on the 25th of June. Call your MP first to make sure they'll be there. More info on the trans actual Instagram/website.

Email your MP. Look up their email (gov.uk has a tool) and send them an urgent, polite email now asking them to vote against this guidance

Also, email your MP to ask for a meeting. They legally have to meet with you. Give the issue you want to talk about, your name, address, and contact number.

If you're not in the UK, share this post, and tell your UK friends about the mass lobby. We need as many of us as we can get.

Important reminder

I know this is a scary time, but we fought this before, and we'll keep fighting. We've got each other's backs. Our community is strong and we will survive this as long as we celebrate and lean on each other.

Don't make eachother more scared than we need to be - avoid the misinformation. Remember, this is not law. This is statutory guidance. Even if it passes, it is a document which may be used in court if a business is brought into a lawsuit over their gender policies in their single sex spaces. This guidance passing does not make it illegal to use the bathroom. It does not even make it illegal for a business to have trans inclusive bathrooms etc. It advises on whether that business should be considered to be illegally non-complying with the equality act in the event of a case.

The right wing is constantly doing vigilante shit and imposing life, interpersonal, economic, and mental consequences on marginalized folks and those who support them for the crime of existing and being oppressed. They’ll publicly lynch 16 year old Black girls, 19 year old trans girls, burn down abortion clinics, shoot up literally anywhere, destroy/damage houses, and so much more.

And we.. protest and maybe do graffiti. Organize to “vote blue no matter who” type bullshit. We don’t even punch Nazis anymore lmfao. A lot of the non-white organizers and activists who became publicly known for stuff like taking down confederate flags, action in 2020, etc. in the past decade are dead or in jail now, often likely because of vigilante/cop action.

Iunno. I’m one Black tranny cripple and my literal ability to do.. anything, anymore is minimal. But I feel like I’m losing my mind watching almost nothing happen here while elsewhere resisters are literally dismantling weapons factories piece by piece until they can’t function.

Opened Twitter, scrolled for 27 seconds, learned about Jor’Dynn Duncan, a 7 year old Black girl who was tortured to death over months with 90 stab wounds, by three white women (step-grandmother, step-mother, and step-sister) in Long Island after courts granted the step-mother custody over her.
