the worst part of summer is that people get sooo comfortable expressing their disgust at having to see other peopleâs bodies. theyâre always complaining about wrinkly old men at the nude hot springs or fat women in bikinis at the beach. I hate that shit. if youâre not capable of being normal about bodies you personally donât find attractive, just turn your head to look at something else! and if youâre not smart enough to do that, then at least do the rest of us the courtesy of suffering in silence, because we donât wanna hear your weird comments. thanks.

The way isolation plays on your psyche, and the way that a solid support system can improve your life is insane. One of the worst things that we did as a society is removing most avenues to find this kind of thing, and the over reliance on the idea of getting better on your own
What is it with diabetes that makes people think they know more about it than the people who have the disorder. People hear the word diabetes and flock to compete with who can be the most ableist.
Found a video of a girl showing off Diet Soda detector strips (if there's any diabaddies that see this and want it I can link them, they're super helpful), and half of the comments were "you're diabetic you should just be drinking water..." First of all, not only are you just wrong, but you seriously expect diabetics to just never enjoy themselves? Ever?.
Saw another comment under a video about type 1 saying "you did this to yourselves. you ate too much sugar and you got yourself into this situation." And it's just so funny because they're Wrongâ˘ď¸. Type one diabetes is autoimmune and fully hereditary, and not at all effected by diet.
I mean, I know the answer. It's diet culture. People on their fancy diets think they're a superior human being because other people are "unhealthier" than them, and they hear diabetes and think "big fat and lazy with a bad diet" and think they're allowed to walk all over them since they're so superior. Despite the fact that it's a completely false stereotype that doesn't apply to most diabetics.
And btw please do not come under this post saying "but other disorders have that too" this is a vent post about diabetes. Do not derail.
The other thing about diabetes type 2 is that what the evidence actually suggests is that there's an underlying metabolic disorder that causes weight gain and sugar craving before actual diabetes develops.
A lot of type 2's start out as hypoglycemic -- their pancreas is over-producing insulin, causing blood sugar crashes. Insulin stuffs sugar into fat cells, causing people to get fat, if there's too much of it. The overproduction of insulin is a response to slow-growing insulin resistance. Because sugar is a vital part of human energy, people who cannot easily process sugar due to insulin resistance and insulin over-response may crave sugar in order to have enough energy to function.
So you didn't get diabetes because you got fat. You got fat because you were on track to get diabetes. and nobody is addressing the metabolic disorder. Hypoglycemics can be quite skinny -- I was for years. But if you're skinny, nobody is concerned about the fact that you are passing out when you haven't had enough to eat. Because only being fat is ever a medical problem. People who are "normal" weight obviously have nothing wrong with their metabolism whatsoever. :-(
To add somewhat to the above, type 2 is genetic. You canât get it solely from diet alone. As a specialist nurse crudely but not entirely incorrectly once said to me âif it was just diet then every fat/unhealthy person would have diabetesâ.
And now going back to the top point, I know exactly what video op is referring to and she made a different video a few weeks prior specifically about harmful comments to t1dâs and instead of getting the point, heaps of comments were basically to the effect of âbut we can bully t2ds bc they brought this on themselves, they deserve to be mockedâ. HUH. DO YOU HEAR YOURSELVES.
I have many chronic conditions. T1D is absolutely the worst by the landslide itâs not even close. I would not wish this on anyone. If you ever think youâd like to make a comment on someone elseâs diabetes, of any type, do not do it. If you are a diabetic I trust you to be sensible, otherwise, keep your mouth shut.
in more pleasant news: this year is seeing the biggest humpback migration in Australian history, bigger than it was PRE whaling. That's right, there are more humpbacks migrating off the coast of Australia than there were BEFORE industrial whaling started.
A huge, fat W for environmentalists and Greenies. what an achievement
Around 2018 my wifey and I where on our morning commute to college along California highway 1, passing by the small town of Cayucos when I spied water spray in the bay. We made our way to the beach and onto the pier and got to see the humpbacks hanging out right there in the bay.

This candle has become some indescribable horror, a visage so far beyond comprehension that I am frothing at the mouth whenever I dare utter its description. A vile conscience that has awoken to discover an insect dares to contain it via metaphor into a constraint it does not desire and it has begun to *thrash*
I fear the discovery that this candle is me, I am this candle, and with each burning another piece is forever lost as vapor into some empty space beyond my reach, and with each click of the lighter something primordial in the weave of this thread-thin wick flinches
But it's, like, whatever. I got shit to do. Fuckin' light the whole lump of wax, let's go
Finnish children learn media literacy at 3 years old. Itâs protection against Russian propaganda
Finland has been fighting fake news by teaching media literacy to children as young as 3. The Nordic nation includes this in its national cu
By  JAMES BROOKSUpdated 5:17 AM AEDT, January 6, 2026
HELSINKI (AP) â The battle against fake news in Finland starts in preschool classrooms.
For decades, the Nordic nation has woven media literacy, including the ability to analyse different kinds of media and recognise disinformation, into its national curriculum for students as young as 3 years old. The coursework is part of a robust anti-misinformation program to make Finns more resistant to propaganda and false claims, especially those crossing over the 1,340-kilometer (830-mile) border with neighbouring Russia.
Now, teachers are tasked with adding artificial intelligence literacy to their curriculum, especially after Russia stepped up its disinformation campaign across Europe following its full-scale invasion of Ukraine nearly four years ago. Finlandâs ascension into NATO in 2023 also provoked Moscowâs ire, though Russia has repeatedly denied it interferes in the internal affairs of other countries.
âWe think that having good media literacy skills is a very big civic skill,â Kiia Hakkala, a pedagogical specialist for the City of Helsinki, told The Associated Press. âItâs very important to the nationâs safety and to the safety of our democracy.â
AI literacy becoming a vital skill
At Tapanila Primary School, in a quiet neighbourhood north of Helsinki, teacher Ville Vanhanen taught a group of fourth graders how to spot fake news. As a TV screen beamed a âFact or Fiction?â banner, student Ilo Lindgren evaluated the prompt.
âIt is a little bit hard,â the 10-year-old admitted.
Vanhanen said his students have been learning about fake news and disinformation for years, beginning with reading headlines and short texts. In a recent class, the fourth graders were tasked with coming up with five things to look out for when consuming online news to ensure itâs trustworthy. Now they are moving onto AI literacy, which is quickly becoming a vital skill.
âWeâve been studying how to recognise if a picture or a video is made by AI,â added Vanhanen, a teacher and vice principal at the school.
Finnish media also play a role, organising an annual âNewspaper Week,â where papers and other news are sent to young people to consume. In 2024, Helsinki-based Helsingin Sanomat collaborated on a new âABC Book of Media Literacy,â distributed to every 15-year-old in the country as they began upper secondary school.
âItâs really important for us to be seen as a place where you can get information thatâs been verified, that you can trust, and thatâs done by people you know in a transparent way,â Jussi Pullinen, the daily newspaperâs managing editor, said.
Democracy is challenged through disinformation
Media literacy has been part of the Finnish educational curriculum since the 1990s, and additional courses are available for older adults who might be especially vulnerable to misinformation.
The skills are so ingrained into the culture that the Nordic nation of 5.6 million people regularly ranks at the top of the European Media Literacy Index. The index was compiled by the Open Society Institute in Sofia, Bulgaria, between 2017 and 2023.
âI donât think we envisioned that the world would look like this,â Finnish Education Minister Anders Adlercreutz said. âThat we would be bombarded with disinformation, that our institutions are challenged â our democracy really challenged â through disinformation.â
And with the rapid advancement of AI tools, educators and experts are rushing to teach students and the rest of the public how to tell whatâs fact and whatâs fake news.
âIt already is much harder in the information space to spot whatâs real and whatâs not real,â Martha Turnbull, director of hybrid influence at the Helsinki-based European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats, said. âIt just so happens that right now, itâs reasonably easy to spot the AI-generated fakes because the quality of them isnât as good as it could be.â
She added: âBut as that technology develops, and particularly as we move toward things like agentic AI, I think thatâs when it could become much more difficult for us to spot.â
maybe y'all didn't notice but fat people who don't hate ourselves sure did notice that people were obsessed with shitting on fat people in the late 90s and early 2000s (conservative political time) and now are again (fascist political time), coincidentally while the market for weight loss has become a 90 billion dollar industry due to glp1s.
you are not immune to propaganda. it makes some people a whole hell of a lot of money for you to hate fat people and fear becoming (or staying, I think like 70% or something of the US is fat) one of us.
a lot of the fearmongering over fatness comes from studies directly funded by the weight loss industry...i think people don't really realize or think about the fact that research can absolutely be influenced and skewed by its funding. there is also research that shows that an amount of the negative health outcomes for fat people come from anti-fat bias. if you go to the doctor with concerns and the doctor simply tells you to lose weight, your problem is neglected and you may not even bother going to the doctor with the next problem.
every fat person you know for the most part probably has a story like this, of medical neglect. many of the stories i've heard personally are when the complaint or the doctor wasn't related at all, like being told to lose weight at the ear nose and throat doctor or at the dentist. it's straight up just bias. it's such a thing that in the show Shrill it's portrayed, when Aidy Bryant goes to the gynecologist and her doctor suggests she get gastric bypass.
the studies on health and fatness are simply not that black and white and there is basically no research that shows that more than an incredibly tiny minority of people can lose weight and keep it off for more than like 2 years. bodies have set points that they gravitate towards, it's not a personal failure. this also is how the weight loss industry succeeds so well - repeat customers.
some of the harm associated with fatness is also due to weight cycling, which is very hard on your body and is even worse if you get off a GLP1, which according to a recent study causes weight to be regained at a rate that is 4x faster than without taking a GLP1.
you don't have to hate yourself. you don't have to hate other people for their body type either. it makes me so sad to see the thinspo tag going around again in 2026 a lot like it was back in the day.
A study spanning almost four decades and involving more than 100,000 adults in Denmark found that those with an 'overweight' body mass index
there's so much crazy shit once you go down the rabbit hole. for example, BMI was not invented by anyone with a medical background. it was never meant to measure individual health.
I was gunna put this in the tags but itâs a lot. When i first started going through the process of getting a diagnosis, i was labelled with ODD. I immediately took issue with this, it seemed like an unfair diagnosis based entirely on the session the psychiatrist had with my parents (which mostly consisted of âmy child is being really difficult on purposeâ), and Hoo Boy when i tell you ODD immediately strips you of your ability to call out anyone on anything, that would be an understatement. I couldnât even disagree or bring up my concerns about the validity of MY OWN DIAGNOSIS without it being labelled as oppositional defiance. Whenever i displayed any negative emotion the âtreatmentsâ did so much more harm than good. When you label someone as âdefiantâ (ugh), when that word is put on their medical record, that person is never allowed to complain about anything again. Knowing that POC are disproportionately affected with this diagnosis makes me feel sick, i can only imagine whatâs being swept under the rug as someone just being âdefiant to authorityâ, not even just in the medical field but as justification for police brutality and mass incarceration. When i say medical racism kills people, this is what i mean.

being made by vitro fertilisation (IVF) is so funny. my parent didn't have sex, my parents conducted an experiment with a scientist. my humble beginnings can be traced to a petri dish. some person i dont know clocked in to work and then just made me. i was made in a lab and i didn't even get any cool powers or anything. im just a girl that has to work 9 to 5
a tag mentioned how likely it is for ivf to produce twins and it reminded me of the fact that i ate my twin in the womb. so maybe my secret power is eating people
