thinking abt how Suo to me is such a passive character actually. as in, he lacks agency, as a character trait. like, we see him acting and having opinions, but, esp during the beginning, we rarely see him make a decision that's more than a mere reaction. we see him taking on a leader/teacher/mediator role a lot but that's bc that's expected of him, that's who he is supposed to be, he doesn't think he's allowed to step out of those roles. he views his own personal preferences as secondary/irrelevant, we know that he has a rather deferential relationship to authority and we know he rarely ever initiates something personal. he hides inside those rules of discipline and responsibility even when he could conceivably lay those down for a few hours and I don't think he really knows how to exist outside that, how to want things for himself and act on that. he does what other ppl do, what other ppl want him to do, what other ppl expect him to do. and during the span of wbk before this arc, it's really cool to see Suo's subtle growth in that regard.

which ofc beautifully mirrors Sakura, whose life tried to beat the agency out of him and he still emerged with so much autonomy and the ability to want and act on his wants. Suo is envious of a lot of his traits and I feel like agency is one of them
