I can never tell if this was intentional or not but the new season of CME has really got me thinking about how whenever something goes wrong in JJ's day to day life or she needs a hand with something, we generally see her call on Penelope first for help (burst pipes, kids birthday parties etc). But whenever something goes wrong, it's Emily who winds up filling that role instead (dog attacks, miscarriage, kidnappings, various dark and twisty spin outs etc). Then for Emily, depending on what season it is, she mostly gravitates to Morgan/Rossi (work dramas, life advice, bad dreams etc), until things go wrong, at which point JJ winds up filling that support role instead (Doyle, Scrabble, Louise Hulland, Emily doubting herself as unit chief etc). And neither of them ever really ask the other to do this. Most of the time it's other people on the team who facilitate it or it just happens organically. But it happens time and time again throughout the entire series. Then once the other is okay they just go back to being regular friends/coworkers in each other's orbit without being loud about it because 'yeah, they're fine now. They don't need me. But I'll be here next time they do.'
And we're supposed to just watch the pattern repeat itself for twenty years and be normal about that?????
