You can tell RJ is a good actor because he definitely put more thought into that scene than the writers did. This season does highlight Tyler's growth, but I really don't think that was the intention of the scene on the jet. It comes off more like the writers were just using Tyler as a surrogate for the viewers who don't know who Donnie Mallick is. That might also be a directing or editing issue too.

While I can't say it makes me feel any better about how the show handles the fallout, I do appreciate RJ's perspective. I just wish we could have actually scene it truly playout!

on the face of it i agree with you, this team is a family and loves each other and aren't shy about being physical and hugging! i think the difference for me is jj was like, sitting on luke's lap - imo that moves beyond platonic.

and i think that also may be due to differences in comfort levels between people. some people may think it's totally platonic to sit on your friend's lap, while as my viewpoint is, that's a fairly intimate move. i have never sat on a platonic friend's lap and i would think it's strange if any of my friends tried to sit on my lap, lol. that might make some people call me a prude or w/e, idk, maybe i'm old fashioned but it's just my personal feelings on it. and judging by how some others have interpreted it, i don't think i'm the only one who views lap-sitting as beyond platonic..

ALL THAT SAID i am perfectly open to the idea that they tried to show a platonic hug between friends, and it just came off kind of weird to me/others because of how they chose to direct/shoot the moment. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

anyway i'm not trying to fight about it or anything!! i just want to explain my viewpoint! because this entire season i have thought everyone shouting about jj/luke are just being crazy, and everything they've shown with jj and luke so far were just friendly/sibling/bro-coded to me. but jj sitting on luke's lap is just making me side-eye due to my own personal views on platonic vs romantic interactions hahaha.

in the end i'm hoping this can just be chalked up to these different interpretations and that it's nothing at allllll lalalala *walks off to touch grass*

If it makes you feel better, I don't think she went to sit on his lap. I'm overanalyzing a ton here, but it looks more like she's sitting on the armrest. It would be hard to do so anyway, given the height of the armrest and little room between it and the table.

Plus, I saw someone point out that Emily is wearing her seat belt in this scene. Everyone is sitting when JJ stands up in excitement. You could make the argument that the plane started to descend and JJ just lost her balance, lol. This would also explain why no one else moves to congratulate her.

In all seriousness, though, I think if they were intending for this moment to be romantic, they would have held onto the shot a lot longer than they did.

I was talking with @lsquaredstl who helped me realize part of my fear is that I just don't have a lot of trust with the writers. So I'm like primed to believe the worst. And it's true, the second something feels slightly off to me on this show I'm like that's it.. it's over for me hahaha

Oh trust me, I have been there. I mean, I spent a solid 3 hours panicking that they were gonna kill off Luke because of a sliver of a blue shirt in the promo stills.

The good news is no matter how much the show disappoints us, we always have fanfic!

I don't know if I would say Brian has had more focus, but I do have some thoughts on how much Luke we've actually gotten this season. I'm going to wait till we have the full picture after the finale to share them.

So there's an article that was released today that gives a pretty major spoiler about tomorrow's episode.

It looks like we have two female unsubs who were abused by their local police and are now killing said cops(I support womens rights, but more importantly I support women's wrongs).

This potentially says a lot about the promo images that we got of Penelope and Rossi:

If I were to guess, Penelope is going to uncover the abuse, and then at least one of the local cops will turn on the BAU. When the first promo image came out forever ago, it did not occur to me that Rossi and Penelope might have a gun aimed at them, but with this bit of info plus the other promo images, that seems to be the most likely case. Them being in the police station also makes me think it's a cop.

Penelope was shot by a corrupt cop, so I do wonder if that is the big callback Breen Frazier was referring to.

My first thought was something with Gideon because there seems to be a lot of Rossi in the promo images. But they've explored so much of Gideon's backstory already that I'm not sure what else there is left to cover, lol.

Ok like as much as I would love to see Luke defend Penelope in this moment….i kind of hope he’s pissed. Penelope and Luke have never actually been in conflict in a meaningful way. I would kind of like to see it. And even though I think Luke would understand where Penelope is coming from, I would like to see Luke act almost impulsively on these intense emotions with his recent losses compounding all these feelings. I could see him being angry with her decision and hurt that she didn’t give him any heads up. Penelope alone without him as a defender for the first time ever, Luke going home alone to an empty apartment without her comfort, eating a Tupperware lasagna she brought over last week…. I guess I just want both of them to be miserable and sad and alone because I’m a sadist and I love that shit

I do wonder if her secretiveness is something that will irritate him…and as much as I would like him to defend her I would also like to hear her defend herself. Yes! Before the season started, I said I wanted to see them have a real argument. I love watching relationships get tested and the amount of yearning we'd get from both of them would be incredible.

The writers have gone out of their way to show us that Luke and Penelope tell eachother everything. Luke has extensive knowledge of Penelope's love life, he knows more about why she was visiting Voit than anyone else, and Penelope was the only person Luke felt safe enough to talk to about Roxy. So why was was this the line? He's probably wondering, what part of their relationship made her feel like she couldn't be honest about this? "If you believe what you did was right, than what reason do you have not to tell me other than that you don't trust me or you don't think I would respect your choice?"

I 50/50 want this vs Luke just being her supportive rock in the face of Rossi's wrath lol I literally think I will be happy either way. But it would be so yummy if they had a fight about it and also perhaps got some admissions of feelings out in the course of this argument and then resolved their argument and made out 👍

It could be both! Rossi could say something a little too cruel and Luke gets between them, telling Rossi to go cool of. Then Penelope goes to thank Luke for standing up for her, and he replies, "Rossi was out of line, but don't think I'm not pissed about this too."

Luke allowing himself to feel his feelings, but still being ride or die would be so good!
