sometimes you see Takes™ that make you go "mmmhmmm okay yeah i see we both interpreted that differently based on what the show gave us, but i see how you arrived at your ideas even if they're different from mine," and then sometimes you see Takes™ that make you go "brother what show did you even fucking watch"
i made a post like this before but I can't find it now. so. I'll just redo it.
What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?
It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.
My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict 😂
remember to bury the dead with a phone, everyone. these days the ferry terminal at the river styx wants you to download a fucking app

Strange haunted photo where Winifred looks like she's a painting
I have placed her in a more fitting setting
For the first time in my tenure on tumblr, it's "THAT'S A PHOTOGRAPH?" and not "THAT'S AN OIL PAINTING?"
In 1999, on the 30th anniversary of the first moonwalk, the members of rec.crafts.textiles.needlework shared their memories of the historic event. Transcripts in alt text.

furiously searching online "what do animals do out in a rainstorm" while it's raining
nobody worry too much because they all produce various oils and have different densities of fur to keep them dry and warm as well as seek out shelter under thick vegetation
i dont think i really understand at all what standards the majority of human earth people use to judge "good acting" vs "bad acting"
i initially read this to mean “i don’t understand the standards the majority of people use to judge good behavior vs bad behavior” & was like “same,” but then i realized you meant acting like in TV, movies, and plays. and I’m also like “same.”
people at large go apeshit gaga over some performances i thought were just okay or pretty good; more often, they seem to really dislike performances i thought were fantastic! (usually the criticism is either that they think the acting is stiff/cold/not emotive enough/“you can’t tell what the character is thinking,” or that they think the acting is over the top in a way they find “unrealistic” and obnoxious.)

Reblog if you’re 30 or older
This is an experiment to see if there really are as few of us as people think. You can also use this to freak out your followers who think you’re 25 or something. Yay!

generally, do kids like you?
yes, they practically flock to me
yes, we get along
they are generally neutral towards me
no, not really
no, they hate me
i do not interact with children enough to see a pattern

Writing is lonely in a specific way that is hard to explain to people who don't do it. not lonely like isolated. lonely like you are trying to build a bridge to another human consciousness using only words on a page and you will never actually know if you got there.
You send the thing out and maybe someone reads it and something moves in them and they have no way to tell you exactly what moved or why and you have no way to know if it was the thing you meant or something else entirely.
You're working in permanent uncertainty about whether any of it lands. and you keep going anyway. you have to develop this strange faith in the act itself, in the value of the attempt separate from the outcome, because if you need confirmation every time you sit down you will never sit down.
Most of the writing happens in a silence that never fully gets broken. you learn to be okay in that silence or you don't last.
Sometimes I think it's me I'm trying to build that bridge to while writing
