-The comforting one watching the hurt one sleep and feeling incredibly ~fond~
-The hurt one waking up to see the comforting one asleep near them and feeling incredibly ~fond~
I feel called out. âŠAlso you forgot a few important ones:
otherwise stoic character flinching, either because theyâre so out of it or the pain is Just That Bad
the injured person having to walk their comforter through giving them stitches
the hurt one suddenly losing their balance/too weak to stand and the comforting one is right there to catch them
character gently cupping someoneâs cheek while theyâre asleep/unconscious and the hurt one turns their face into their hand
Whatâs also neat to study with screencaps of disney movies is how they use color in their lines. They donât just pick any colors!Â
For example, check out Jasmine and Mulan. Both of them have black hair, but we get subtle differences between them.Â
Mulan, for example, has hair made with dark brown lines. We get the idea that her hair is probably a very deep, deep shade of brown, or that as light filters through her hair, weâre seeing that brown subsurface scattering.
Jasmine, meanwhile, has hair that is so deep black we sometimes see it as blue. This is black hair with cool undertones, as opposed to Mulanâs hair with warm undertones. Which in pure color speak is impossible, but is something that happens with hair, since hair is mildly translucent and reflective.Â
You can even compare that further with Esmeralda, who has grey lines that give the illusion of neutral undertones.
They can also use color to give characters that fantasy feel or the feel of completely unnatural hair. Princess Aurora, for example, has technically darker hair than Charlotte LaBouff. But, with the lighter outlines? Auroraâs hair looks absolutely fairytale golden, while Lottieâs looks like a more natural flaxen blonde.
How disney uses color isnât the be-all end-all, but they can give you some really neat ideas for showing a lot of information in a condensed drawing.Â

art tips post
for all the artist following me
Have two sketchbooks: One for finished and high-quality art (stuff made with Prismacolor or Copic if you use that or art for your portfolio) and the other sketchbook for more messy doodles. This way you have a place to try new things and mess up as much as you need. When I only had one sketchbook I was scared to draw in it because I didn't want to mess it up
Do studies. I cant tell you how much I've improved just by doing studies of shoes, hands, noses, and all that. This works for when you have art block too since youâre not really making stuff up and just learning how real things work.
Learn from others. Iâve never taken a real art class because 1. I canât afford it and 2. thereâs no good art classes/programs at my school. Iâve been following several artists and learning from them over the years and theyâve helped me tremendously. Just please do not steal art because that is never okay.
Break down concepts. If you notice thereâs something wrong with your piece then figure out why. You canât get better if you leave mistakes and don't try to understand whats going on. If the color is weird figure out if the values look right or maybe its the saturation of the color.
Watch youtube tutorials. Here are some youtubers I think are pretty good art teaching all things art: Draw with Jazza | DrawingWiffWaffles | Proko | Baylee Jae
Have an inspiration folder/blog. Sometimes you just need a collection of starry nights or a misty forest or even a French bakery. All of those things can help you get inspired to draw. It could even be completely unrelated to what you plan to draw.
There are no dumb ideas in the creative process. If you want to draw a lizard in a dress go for it! If you want to draw various pastries with faces do it! Donât let the thought of it being too dumb stop you because if Iâve learned anything in my several years of drawing itâs that an idea can lead to another and another and another and you may get a really good idea just from doodling dumb things.
Hereâs a few things that can get you started on drawing better:
Dynamic poses | Dynamic clothes | Dynamic figure drawing
COMPOSITION | PERSPECTIVE | CONSTRUCTION
Anatomy:
Legs
Arms
Hands
Heads
Body (Female) (Male
Color Theory
Improving your sketchbook
Most importantly, donât give up! You may not immediately get notes or followers but itâs more important you get better than to have popularity. How do you think those popular artists got to where they are now? To be good youâve got to work at it.
villancikos:
The Anatomy of a mermaid
yes, thanks.
i hate when people draws mermaidâs tail like it was some sort of goddamn suit on normal human legs like this:
it just doesnt work
yeah we wouldnt want to make our mermaids too unrealistic
this asks more questions than it answers. they donât really have vestigial legs, like those arenât even motile fins, so why do they still have fully formed hips, why hasnât the pelvic bone changed significantly? and where did the tail come from?
[proto whale]
[orca skelly]
whales as we know them evolved from land animals that went back out to sea, and itâs all spine all the way down to the tail fin. the pelvis is vestigial to the point of being tiny and unrecognizable, and the rear leg structure is //gone//. and by the time they evolved all that, their forelegs had turned into proper fins and they didnât have hourglass figures, because they built up walls of insulating fat and blubber where it was needed most - around the vital organs.
[walrus skelly]
which brings us to the walrus. as you can see the skeletal structure and the external appearance are fairly ursiform - the rear legs are basically still in there forming the tail, and the pelvis is intact, and above that it may as well still be a land animal. if mermaids did exist, as hominids who went back out to sea, and if they hadnât evolved into basically dolphins, then a walrus skeletal system, complete with vestigial thigh bones inside a kind of muscle skirt, and with significant fat and blubber deposits //on the main body// would be most likely. which is to say, mermaids with human torsos and seagoing lower bodies would waddle around on their tails, have clearly defined thigh structures, and would be a hell of a lot rounder above and about the waist than theyâre usually depicted.
which begs the question, then, if you see a mermaid and itâs a skinny little thing with a slinky waist and an eel-like tail and a perfect bosom and a coy smile, //why does it look like that//? because whatever that is? it is not a land animal that readapted to the sea. it is not your distant kin. it is a sea creature that adapted //to get your attention//.
maybe itâs all an illusion, a frilly mane, an hourglass shape, and narrow antennae that mimic the shape of human arms, waving lonely sailors into the water, only to realize too late the bioluminescent patterns of lipstick and pert breasts are to distract from what lies behind them - viselike jaws and row after row of stiletto teeth.
or maybe itâs all soft tissue, the gelatinous bell of a jellyfish folded into a pleasing shape, luring the unwary down to be caught up in a tail that is nothing more than thousands of barbed lines of stinging neurotoxin cells.
or it could be that the tail goes deep into a shadowy well, and the beautiful woman is a mask for a single enormous jaw, the internal skeleton just the endless spine and ribs of a vast and hungry sea snake.
or, perhaps most terrifyingly, the face is real but not the face of the eyes looking out of it - a human mask for an intelligence both cold and calculating, wearing an inviting smile to bring you within reach of the dagger behind itâs back. waiting to slice the skin off of you because it needs a new disguise, because it is shaped like you but does not look like you, because it must pass as you so it can go among you, so that by starlight it may go on land and into town, where your kin are sleeping, unsuspecting.
Jesus Christ back up a minute buddy
I am 100% on board with eldritch horror mermaids.
Can I set up something to just reblog this every time I see it? Like automatically? Because this is perfect and I love this.
Hot take but likeâŠ. trans people like donât have to disclose that they are trans if they donât want to. Trans people can work with you, be friends with you, and yes, even flirt with you, and not have to tell you they are trans. Our existence doesnât require a full disclosure agreement.

This is suuuper bare bones but this is basically how I make space. The great thing about space is that thereâs really no right or wrong way to go about it- depending on the style- just pepper in some stars / as little or as much color as you want and BLAM- space also to note (cos Iâm silly and forgot to add):
step 1 is base layer
step 2-5 is all one layer
step 6-7 in one layer
step 8 is one (optional) layer
(also layer effects and references are your friend.)
(also also the other brush I used was the Uneven layering brush right above the one I have circled) I hope this helps!
oh hey new guide thinggg~ some basics on how to practice! thereâs SO much I could add to this, so itâs just the basics :O
short (kind of): thereâs more to practice than doing something repeatedly, itâs also learning new things, problem solving, and honest critique. Each of those is its own skillâŠalso be nice to yourself!
*passionately thinks about story instead of writing it*
I was asked how I made the rainbow light effect in my last piece, so I put together a quick step by step.
if youâve ever wondered what itâs like to live in the midwest, this is it.Â
You missed some of the best ones
the best part about it is that the art installation isnât actually called the Bean. Itâs called Cloud Gate, and artist Anish Kapoor (yes, THAT Anish Kapoor) hates that we call it the Bean.
But i mean, look at it. Itâs a bean.
How could you forget this one though
I HAD NO FUCKING IDEA THAT THE BEAN WAS CREATED BY ANISH KAPOOR.
someone help me why is anish kapoor important what did he do?
Alright sit down for some Art World Drama bcause this is what I live for.
So, sometime last year (?) science invented Vantablack, which is the darkest possible shade of black. Art world got incredibly excited. But as it needs to be very carefully made in a lab, itâs hard to get a hold of, and is extremely expensive. Enter Anish Kapoor, aka FuckFace McGee. Anish Kapoor buys the rights to Vantablack. He is the only human being on the planet that can legally use it, and heâs kind of a prick about it.
Art world is not thrilled with that.
Enter Stuart Semple.
Stuart Semple is an artist, and also makes pigments to sell in his free time. Stuart Semple is astoundingly pissed about this Vantablack nonsense, and Anish Kapoorâs dickery. Stuart Semple makes a new pigment, the brightest shade of pink ever, called Pinkest Pink, and puts it for sale on the internet. To be bought by everybody except Anish Kapoor. Literally, to purchase, you need to confirm that you are not Anish Kapoor, do not associate with him, and will not sell or give the pigment to Anish Kapoor or his associates. Art world has a good laugh, everyone buys Pinkest Pink because itâs awesome, and damn it we deserve something.
Anish Kapoor however is a penis, and will not take this lying down, because HOW DARE he not have literally everything.
Anish Kapoor gets his London associates to buy him a thing of Pinkest Pink, and being such a classy human being, posts a picture to instagram of him with his middle finger covered in Pinkest Pink, captioned with âUp yours. #pinkâ
Everyone flips shit, because. Yâknow. Fuck that guy. Especially Stuart Semple. For context here, Anish Kapoor is one of the richest artists on the planet, and has repeatedly been referred to as everything wrong with the art world, and the epitome of the art worlds elitism problem. Heâs a giant douchebag. Meanwhile Stuart Semple makes pigments just to get them out there. He turns 0 profit from his now enourmously popular pigments.
Stuart Semple launches an investigation as to who the fuck leaked Pinkest Pink, and plans to strike back. He does so by releasing two new products. First is Diamond Dust, which is a glitter made from glass, so that a painting is still visible after itâs applied, but glitters like a mofo. Itâs the most reflective glitter out there, and is available to everyone who isnât Anish Kapoor. And it being made of glass, if you stick your finger in there, itâs going to hurt quite a bit, so that was Stuart Sempleâs way of saying âshove your middle finger in this, asshole, see what happensâ. Except without saying that, because he can get an insult across while still being fucking classy.
He also releases Black 2.0, created with the help of over a thousand artists worldwide.
Black 2.0 is the answer to Vantablack. Black 2.0 is a slightly less black black, but looks functionally the same to the human eye. Itâs completely safe, smells like cherries, and costs four pounds. Vantablack is highly toxic, potentially explosive, needs to be applied in a special laboratory and sealed properly, canât be moved across borders, can reach 300 degrees celsius if youâre not extremely careful, and costs thousands of dollars. Anish Kapoor is the only human being who can use Vantablack. He is the only human being who cannot use Black 2.0.
So I think we can guess who got the better deal.
And thus the feud ends, Kapoor defeated.
âŠBut not quite.
Kapoor, in this entire afair, has made exactly two comments to the public. The first being his charming message about aquiring Pinkest Pink, the second being claiming to Buzzfeed that he and his small army of lawyers will be suing Semple, an extremely poor artist who cannot afford a lawyer.
No lawsuit has been made yet, fyi.
The point is, Kapoor is a prick, and doesnât like talking to the lower classes. So one day in July 2017, he decides he needs another floor on his London studio apartment, and starts making arrangements to have it built. His neighbors are fucking pissed, because this will ruin the light of their apartments. They call to Semple to save them, or at the very least piss Kapoor off some more.
Semple answers to the call, and releases two new paints, Phaze and Shift, as always, banned to Kapoor. They change colours, Phaze with temperature, and Shift is just iridescent. Shift needs to be painted over Black 2.0 to work, and Phaze just works on its own.
So thatâs been the art world for the last two years.
Basically, get fucked Anish Kapoor your bean sucks and so does your vantablack.
Stuart Semple is organising a bean-kissing event for Anish Kapoorâs birthday.
Reblogging for âBy attending this event you confirm that you are not Anish Kapoor, you are in no way affiliated with Anish Kapoor, you are not attending on behalf of Anish Kapoor or an associate of Anish Kapoor. To the best of your knowledge, information, and belief this event will not be attended by Anish Kapoor.â
ALSO HE JUST POSTED THIS!!!!!! LIGHTEST LIGHT!
I know this isnât my art blog but this entire post gives me life
im sorry is that man holding a real actual miniature star in his hands
Yâall missed the best part about the lightest light, called aptly âLitâ. This is from their product page:
Two things:
1. âAnish Kapoor is however a penisâ is the best line in this post.
2. I wish to be half as petty and half as awesome as Stuart Semple
I hope Stuart Semple is making a lot of money. What a good person.
Go support him the paintâs are pretty cheap and you get the added bonus of being one of many to help piss off Anish Kapoor
He is my fucking role model for pettiness oh my god
It got better! Iâm also excited because he just released biodegradable glitter in non plastic containers! How amazing is that?! Stuart Semple, good guy for the planet and artists, fighter against the rich elite artist like asshole Kapoor.
