F***ing Melodrama

     “Eh, most of the times it just annoys me.” She smirks lightly, teasing him before biting her lip to keep herself more quiet. Gosh, they truly were acting like absolutely children in this drunken stupor, something was bound to go wrong. She looked back at him, squinting her eyes as she did the math in her brain. “Two kids would be one and two - or a shared one - either way, it still leaves another opening in the top three.” Her eyes light up at the mention of the music festival though. “Oh that was fun… I got in so much trouble with my parents after, but that was absolutely worth it.” A smile is plastered on her face as she looks back at the jellyfish, before moving down to sit on the floor. “Can we just stay here then for a moment while you think of what else we can do to make tonight a contender for top five?”

“I don’t believe that for one second.” He might’ve if they were sober, but they were floating and he couldn’t be bothered to think twice about it. “Well, I didn’t have those kids by myself, did I? Number one has always been you.” Even when they fought or saw other people. There was never going to be anyone else who could make him feel the same way he did about her. “But you can’t tell Leanne. She’s convinced she’s my number one and we don’t want to break her heart too early,” he added, grinning to himself. “Why am I always the one coming up with ideas? I think you should choose what we do next.” 

     Hearing him call out for her as soon as she walked in, Lina stiffled a laugh at the customer’s reaction before walking in Mars’ direction. “So you’re telling me I could’ve gotten in a nap?” Feigning disappointment, though she’d be lying if she said she wasn’t a bit tired as she worked all day and then stayed longer to bake some extra since Mars had messaged her in time. “It better be worth it, or else I’ll turn the girls on you.” She joked as she smiled into the kiss. “Make me drink so this half hour passes faster?”

“I’m sorry. I would’ve told Johnny to fuck off, but he covered my shift when we had that aquarium hangover, so I owed him one,” he explained, giving her one last kiss before returning to his place behind the bar counter. “You could never turn Leanne against me. She loves me unconditionally,” he said, not mentioning Savannah because she could be easily turned against him. “Of course. What do you want? Wait. Should I guess?”

“But you’re thinking it.“ She might not have Edward’s mind-reading powers, but she can sense that Alec must be thinking something along those lines. And she can’t blame him.  A lot of people end up getting tired of her so why wouldn’t he be one of them? “I actually like you a lot. Or liked you. Before all of this. I don’t know. You’re making me very sad right now.”

“Do I look like I’d lie to spare your feelings? I wasn’t thinking shit.” And he wasn’t. Things would definitely be quieter if she left. He wouldn’t have to worry about making sure she didn’t hurt herself when he had other things to worry about. But he didn’t think they’d be happier. “No, you don’t. You shouldn’t. I tried to kill you, remember? Getting sad over someone like me is pointless.” 

“Besides my twin brother, no.“ She isn’t ashamed, nor is she scared of admitting it. Adele is fine with it, truly. Being vulnerable has never been something she’s liked. Yeah, it can be assumed that the woman has some unresolved issues but really, he technique has worked great for her throughout her life so why change? “Wait, and who is supposed to be the moon in this scenario?”

“I take it, you wouldn’t react well if I told you to keep an eye on him?” he asked. It probably wasn’t her brother and he knew nobody liked to be told their relatives were bad for them, but everything is possible. “It doesn’t have to be a person, it probably won’t be. The Moon can be your intuition or just the signs that someone isn’t good for you.”

One thing Camila has always hated to admit is that she had never had anywhere else to go. She has no one other than herself. So, she thought that things would actually be okay during the hot second she believed what Alec had done had been a good thing. She thought that perhaps she had found someone she could finally gravitate around but obviously her annoyingness has gotten to him. And it’s fair. It’s happened plenty of times before and it will most likely keep happening. “Would you… Would you guys be happier if I left?”

“I didn’t say that,” he defended the minute he heard the tremble in her voice. God, the last thing he wanted was for her to leave. Even if she was still his biggest regret. “But you’re going to want to. Eventually. You’re probably already sick of me. Just wait a few years and you’ll start to find me unbearable.” She wouldn’t be the first. 

“Oh.“ Okay, that was a low blow. So low Camila actually tears up. But she doesn’t want to make Alec feel like he won or anything of the sort so she looks away, sniffles before she wipes her nose with the sleeve of her hoodie. “So you did all of this because you actually hate me? Because what, you want to torture me for the rest of eternity? Very cool. Thanks.”

“I didn’t do it on purpose,” he said, the look on his face asking if she really felt otherwise. Her tears were starting to get to him, but it wasn’t enough to make him lie. “You’re still here because I take responsibility for my actions. And as much as we like to joke about it, it’s not like this is forever. Whenever you feel like you can leave... I’m not stopping you.”

“Oh.“ Well, Adele doesn’t have a lot of those. She has, maybe… Her brother. But Daniel would never do anything like that. Yes, there are many times when they end up not getting along, but both of them are fiercely loyal to one another. “I don’t really do the whole love thing.”

“You don’t love anyone? No close friends or family?” he asked, almost feeling bad for her. Giving her a sympathetic glance, he chose to unveil her final card before she could answer him. “Nine of Pentacles. Things are going to be okay. At least, if you listen to what the moon tells you and stop the devil from further harming you.” 

“No! You do not deserve to get laid! I am not touching you ever again so you can be a grumpy old man with blue balls. YUCK.“ She actually doesn’t know if she has the resolve to keep her promise, but she still says it because she needs to feel like she is winning this argument. “UGH! This isn’t fair. LIKE! You’re supposed to be nice to me! Teach me night tricks and play baseball with me! This makes no sense AT ALL!”

“Who said I needed you for that? There are thousands of other people, all doe eyed and full of life, waiting for me at the next stop,” he reminded her, even if he had to admit her sudden resurrection left him hesitant to do it again. “Wasn’t Edward in love with Bella? You ever think maybe that’s why you’re got getting the baseball games and the piggyback rides through the forest?”
