fnaf's story treats children as a machine to drive the plot forward, and something about it bugs me. it's odd. you know that tweet that's like "i think you're feeding cats to coyotes"? the story told through the many contradicting and confusing books and games use children- at some points literally- as the reason bad things happen. children have to die and be maimed to drive forward any events in fnaf. you can really tell the christian-family-values-centric views of the creator prevent him from exploring the themes any deeper besides "it's bad when children are hurt". as the series expands, it scaredly attempts to gesture toward concepts of capitalist exploitation (like in security breach and secret of the mimic,) but digs no deeper than blaming the concept of child violence on bad actors, especially parents. every time a child is killed in fnaf (to my knowledge- i am not an expert of this series,) the perpetrator is an independent actor powered by internal problems: edwin neglecting his kid, purple guy killing for fun and then power, the animatronics made to kill the kids for him, even the haunted mascots carrying out the will of the adult unknowingly. hell, even vanessa in security breach is, according to the lore, being directly mind-controlled by purple guy! what is scott trying to say with this? does he really think child violence is done only because people are wicked? it's stunning how he seems to ignore the obvious; that the infrastructure of society that allows the violence and grooming of children ultimately is what cultivates it. individuals of course are responsible for their actions, but what drives them to take actions is their environment, not some sort of divine evil within the soul. this is the fundamental flaw of writing magical fiction as a christian; you are doomed to reveal your own biases within your terrible mascot horror. truly the worst fate to bear, aside from being killed by chuck e cheese, of course.

my general opinion on what people should be "allowed" to portray and what topics they should be "allowed" to explore in fiction is that you can make whatever art with whatever themes you want but i'm also allowed to think the way you handled it was tasteless and should've been done differently. my negative opinion on your handling of sensitive topics is the price of admission for publicly showcasing your work. this is not a pro-censorship stance because i am not The Government

like many people have said this better than me but no it IS odd that we've come to think of potatoes as so quintessentially european that their presence in historical fantasy where they're anachronistic doesn't jar. and yes people are trying to have the trappings of post-colonial europe without engaging w the icky colonialism part and yes people are neglecting to imagine what a european cuisine without potatoes would be like.

im fully in favour of 'let people have fun w their fantasy world' but is considering how the potatoes got there in the absence of colonialism not a fun exercise? maybe every year the dragon riders go on a great transatlantic potato pilgrimage

To be quite honest with you all I do think that aro/ace-spectrum fans in fandoms where people are desperately inventing crossover ships and humanizing non-human characters in order to have a conventionally attractive guy to ship the main character with, instead of possibly having to enjoy a story with no romance in it, have the right to refer to everyone else as cowards.
