I will say one thing and one thing only on the whole “Haunting/Hunting Adeline” being made into a movie discourse…
I don’t care if you love those books. I don’t care if you love Zade Meadows. I don’t care if you love dark romance (I pick up a dark romance every now and then too.) I don’t care about any of that.
My problem is the double standard that people have.
People will whine and cry about how people like “so and so character/love interest” because he sexually assaults the FMC, and she somehow still falls in love with him in a romantasy novel. (I’ll give three guess on who I’m talking about. Scroll a little on my page and the answer will come relatively quick).
And yet, in the same fucking breath, those people that are whining and crying will mention how much they worship Zade Meadows and proclaim HA as the best dark romance book they’ve ever read.
Do you see the problem there????
Or are you so blinded by hate for one of those characters that you can’t???
Like if one isn’t okay, the other one isn’t either. But one gets excused because “it’s dark romance” and it’s “part of the genre”. Because “morals” no longer exist in dark romance. Because it’s “fiction”.
Honey, BOTH OF THEM ARE FICTIONAL!
And no, you shouldn’t have to justify loving a character, but if you are going to whine and cry about one character’s actions, I better see you whining and crying when a different character does those very same actions. The genre of the book shouldn’t fucking matter.
And P.S. the argument about whether Zade actually rapes/SA’s Adeline is moot, if the argument that the character in the romantasy novel is trying to save the FMC’s life is moot, too.
