I've seen a bunch of "fandom etiquette" posts on my dash today and I'm going to say something that is maybe going to be unpopular but;
The absolutely pervasive mentality that unwanted criticism or critique shouldn't be given and should be ignored is why fans of color don't stay in fan spaces.
And I am not going to mince words here:
A lot of you are racist. A lot of your fan works are racist.
That might have been difficult to hear. And if it was, you should probably reflect on why that was.
"Fandom etiquette" has created a space where fans of color either bite our tongues and eventually leave or say something, get dogged on, and then eventually leave.
So much of "fandom etiquette" seems to be about insulating creatives from Feeling Bad and hostility to any kind of negative feedback is a pretty big contributor to why bigotry festers in these spaces.
I was thinking about this the other day and that I wanted your insight on, if you've talked about this before or I'm just repeating something you have discussed please feel free to ignore
I feel like that so many people's (TMEs) understanding of "transandrophobia" comes from a misunderstanding of what transmisogyny. I vaguely remember when well-meaning friends are introduced to transmisogyny as "oh it's the unique discrimination that trans women face!" And they are like yeah that makes sense. But then the next (incorrect) thought is "well trans men experience transphobia differently to trans women so let's make a word for that! #transandrophobia" and they see this as fine, Afterall trans women and trans men experience discrimination differently! So it's good to have words about it! And that what so many of tme people I know believe, but like I mentioned earlier it comes from a misunderstanding of transmisogyny.
As you are well aware, transmisogyny is not just how trans women are discriminated, it's the unique way both that transphobia and misogyny not only intersect but exist uniquely that harms trans women systemically. It's very specific to trans women that looks at their oppression. When transmisogyny is defined like that, like it actually is, the mere idea of transandrophobia is silly, trans men aren't oppressed for being trans and men.
But I believe so many TMEs just don't see that. They view transmisogyny as the first definition I gave, that's it's simply a word to describe the discrimination trans women face. They don't get over the hurdle that the word actually looks at trans women's oppression at a systematic level, like other words such as sexism, racism, ableism, etc and how it depicts why trans women are paid less, treated worse, etc. Which is why they get so much more offended when their transandrophobia is dismissed, because to them you're ignoring trans men's discrimination, when that's not what it's about. They don't treat the word transmisogyny with the weight it has.
I'm not sure if I'm wording it correctly but like
Person thinks transmisogyny is just trans women discrimination -> trans men also face discrimination, they need a word too -> transandrophobia pipeline
Person recognises transmisogyny as the description of how trans women are oppressed with the intersection of transphobia and misogyny -> this is why trans women are overall worse off then their trans men peers -> understanding trans men privilege and how trans women are treated in society
I know this likely isn't the case for all TME people, some are just pos and willfully ignorant, but I was trying to understand how well-meaning people I know would end up with regularly using a word like transandrophobia. What do you think?

shortest possible story is that he he got arrested and hospitalized after walking around outside at night, MAYBE having 'an episode', MAYBE he was drunk, maybe he was high, maybe he was just being loud, who knows. Dude was outside at night in boxers and cowboy boots and that's all he did to "invite" police interaction.
But cops claimed he assaulted them so he gets arrested. Then goes to the hospital. Then goes back into custody.
And then he's not heard of for a while, then days later says he's out and okay. But facing FELONY charges!

Almost a year later, Lil Nas X is out of a mental health rehab program, looking good, saying he feels really good, and seems to be on the way up after all of this. I'm really happy for him. I hope he has good genuine support in his life through family, friends, and folks rooting on him that he can count on.
I am really disappointed but not surprised how quickly a lot of media support for him disappeared, especially queer papers. An interview from before the police incident really highlighted how many people wanted him to fail and wanted to see him fall, including certain pockets within communities that should have has his back.

Ríhanna Kelver, a bartender and trans rights advocate in Laramie, has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a deadly weapon with unlawful intent after a 13 September 2025 confrontation outside the Crowbar & Grill, whereshe worked. Kelver could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison if convicted on both charges.
Kelver says one man in a group of men across the street from her started shouting homophobic and transphobic insults at her before the man allegedly shoved her to the ground in a downtown crosswalk, as reported by The Laramie Reporter.

As pointed out by Slate, self-defense laws are often put into question when people from marginalized communities, especially trans people, use them, including Cece McDonald, a Black trans woman who served time in a men’s prison for defending her friends during a racist and transphobic attack. Ky Peterson, a Black trans man from Georgia, was also arrested and imprisoned for killing his rapist in self-defense.

a local reporter posted this article this morning that delves into her attacker's affiliation with the fascist patriot front org and the fact that since he moved to laramie in 2023 there has been a significant uptick in hateful activity and propaganda being spread throughout the town. this man was prevented from walking at his high school graduation by his own admission due to his racist, queerphobic, and antisemetic behavior.
one of the things that has been infuriating to me is that her attacker is not the one pressing charges. not the literal man she pulled a gun on, it is the police who are threatening her with 15 years in prison.
please help ríhanna if you can, she doesn't deserve this and it is depicting the increasing danger for trans women and other queer people in this city and state as a whole.

"well nothing is intrinsically masculine or feminine" yesss it's almost as though every culture has its own constructed gender norms which is why these values r culturally relative & why it's racist to impose eurocentric gender expectations on racialized bodies. all well & good to say femininity & masculinity should be completely abolished but what are you going to do for the Black women who are being labelled masc or gender non-conforming right now for not aligning with white gender norms that exclude them by design. "gender norms are social constructs do whatever you want forever" isn't enough we need to be saying "Black women are assumed to be deviating from gender norms just by existing even when they are purposefully expressing femininity bc western gender structures are built upon whiteness" like you've got to start by dismantling the racism & white supremacy inherent in these structures or you will leave racialized women behind
thinking and hoping you're not racist isn't enough. i am talking specifically and especially to white trans people whose political ideology and differing axis of oppression makes them feel immune to racially motivated missteps and behaviors
and im suggesting firmly and with pain in my heart that apologies must start and end with "i'm so sorry to have done this. i recognize what was done and will work to do better." and at no point must your apology be accepted in order to continue a working relationship/comradeship/solidarity, at no point does your continued ":( i just feel so bad" matter to me or any other person of color
you have to process your feelings about doing a racism separate from the persons or people you did the racism to. you do not offload the labor to the affronted. you do not assert what your "intent" was repeatedly or ask for help from the hurt
