So I asked my guy Felipe @feliville , master of color, to make me a Whitewashed™ Patroclus. You heard right! I wanted to see what he looked like, and as an aside I said it'd probably prove that he was a white guy painted brown. And y'all-
Tbh, I almost miss the original 🤣🤣🤣 das a Hwite Man, all right!
To quote 🎤:
"ALRIGHTY, SO, From time to time I make simple Black edits on mediocre or bad Black character designs for funsies, but whitewashing a character on purpouse felt Vile and Horrible to do, it even made my stomach hurt 👎🏽 ,, I hate the end result and I hate that his design is so bad that once the dark grey skintone is gone, there's no traces left that he's Supposed to be Black."
What's wild to me is how good this looks. Not as in attractiveness, but as in this is such a sufficient white guy character design. It's why I be saying I wish people would just... Draw another white man if they're not gonna put in the effort to depict us. No one would have flinched if this was the millionth white Patroclus in the rotation. Well I would have, but no one that companies care about would have.
Anyway, when I asked what he did and if it was possible to use the same technique for Black character design:
"I ONLY CHANGED THE COLORS, NOTHING ELSE... OKI, I MEAN, I DID LIGHTEN IT UP, I used 3 effect?blending? layers.
oh of Course !! I do tht all the time with my Normal edits."

What does an ACTUAL apology for antiblackness consist of, to you?
What actions do you need to see from people who claim to be better, to deserve your support despite a history of being unsafe?
Why do you think nonblack people feel they're entitled to grace, and what would actually EARN them your grace? What makes you not want to offer it at all?
I think there's a disconnect between what the group being harmed needs, and what people think the group being harmed should settle for. We've been forced to know the latter. How do Y'ALL feel?

The way adult fandom people hold indie online creators and cartoons to a much higher standard than their actual local politicians. You could be putting that energy into terrorizing and protesting conservatives at your town hall and actually make a good material impact on the world but instead you're background checking everything the trans woman who made the amazing digital circus has ever said

Yesterday I worked on commissions on my living room instead of my bedroom desk for a big chunk of the day, to escape the hellish heat, and god, what a massive mistake.. Drawing sitting in the couch with a tall foldable table somehow made my neck and back hurt like crazy, and my arm still hurts SO MUCH. I wanted to continue drawing today but I do Not want to fuck up my arm more 😔
I never have any sort of back pain or Entire Arm and Hand pain when drawing in my desk, even for most of the day, I guess the desk and chair u draw on Do matter a lot, I always took it for granted, I'm realizing 😔

I have grown to realize a lot of you severely underestimate just how much antiblackness we have to swallow for the sake of our personal peace and our livelihoods. I'm not saying that to be mean or to make you go into a guilt spiral- that would be a useless reaction anyway- but I do want you to consider it. That what you believe to be peace is not just because it "is".
"Well if it was important why didn't anyone say it sooner?" "if it was important, why didn't they say it was racist?" peer, a good 75-80% of what I might say to the white and/or nonblack people that offend me directly goes swallowed for the sake of my paychecks and running water, or God forbid to avoid a bullet. Or if I'm online (where that number shrinks significantly), to be left the fuck alone 🤣
Y'all are very used to not having to hear that feedback bc we've been forcibly socialized into accepting that you won't take it well and often have the power to make it not worth our while to speak. Retaliation is common. That's why it's perturbing to folks when Black people DO speak up. Interrupts the status quo 😅

its not on your comm sheet, and i hope its not a bother to ask, but do you/would you ever take ref sheet commissions? like 1 full body and a 1 headshot with flat color and no shading type of thing?
if you are open to those, do you have a price range on it?
Since I've never done something like this, I think the price would depend on how much of the character I'm designing,, but still using that 1 fullbody and 1 headshot simple shading drawings as a base price, (90USD in this case)
I am willing to draw a reference sheet commission tho : -] !! If you want, you can DM me and we can talk about the details, to give you a more concrete price.
Blake and Marceline have a mutual interest in comic books, however Marceline never really got to read them when she was younger due to her dyslexia. She’d get angry at her inability and breakdown.
