All those "spend just 35 minutes doing a bunch of really hard exercises and you'll feel great forever!" videos are really discouraging. I usually end up doing like, 2 minutes of some of his while waiting for my shower to heat up, and ykw?

It's the Royal Academy of Art Young Artist's Summer Show. One of my favourite exhibitions of the year. Like. Not only are the older kids insanely talented, the younger ones' artist statements will just punch you right in the face.
I knew I wanted to make Big Knight. Wanted it to be around 10 inches tall. Honestly designing it wasn't even too bad, it was the actual crocheting that was. An experience. 20 rows of just single crochet, each row being about 90+ stitches long, in worsted weight yarn is a unique type of pain and torture. Would I do it again? At some point, probably. They're unfairly nice to cuddle with and they're so big that it's really fun to heft them around. They are officially the biggest plushie I've ever made and I'm honestly kind of obsessed with them. Little guy (gender neutral) come to life! But big.
Anyway if you've been following the stuff I've been doing recently, you're probably wondering about a pattern release for them. Right now I have no plans to release the pattern for this jumbo Knight plushie, but I am here to share that I will be participating in the 6th annual pride fundraiser run by the Happy Couple Coalition.
This year, donations will be going towards the Trans Empowerment Project. There will be many streams in June, all to raise awareness of and funnel donations towards this cause. It's more important than ever for people to band together and support each other, and I'm doing my small part in this by offering this jumbo Knight plushie as one of the donation incentive prizes. If you would like a chance to win it, start by donating money to the Trans Empowerment Project through this Tiltify fundraising link. Donations matching a specific value will grant raffle tickets, which you can put towards a prize of your choosing. Dude, all the evidence shows that we as a species put the majority of our Evolution Points/Character Creation Points into things like cooperation and interdependence.
America has a weird relationship with cults where they’re terrified of small cults (or organizations they think are cults) but completely normalized massive cults that hurt many more people (eg: LDS Church, Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Amish, Scientology, most Megachurches)
To anybody asking if the Amish are a cult, the answer is yes, very much so.
They’re a high control group that isolate you from society. The cult decides how you dress, how you behave, who you marry and how. They control what you know, blocking all information from the outside world. They control how you feel and what you’re allowed to think with threats of both social and supernatural harm. They’re a cult.
The best method to determine if a group is a cult, in my opinion, is Steven Hassan’s (cult expert and former cult member himself) BITE model.
BITE stands for Behavior Control, Information Control, Thought Control, and Emotional Control.
The more points a group “scores” on the model, the more of a cult it is.
I think this model is the best one for several reasons:
It’s more nuanced than “cult” or “not cult” and doesn’t make false equivalences between groups
It’s versatile, applying to groups big and small, and cults of all kinds, religious, political, financial, etc.
It focuses on what’s important, which is what the cult does to its members, and those members’ experiences, and not on irrelevant details like how uncommon their doctrines are or whether they have a charismatic leader
#you might notice that there are a lot of similarities between cult techniques and those of abusive partners#and that is an important thing to be aware of
high control groups can also form in friend groups and online! any social group can theoretically be a high control enviroment that’s abusive. any group can be a cult if someone uses that group to control and abuse others.
i cannot, for the life of me, use comercial patterns. i always end up making something WAY too big. i have only tried three times, i have no idea what im doing wrong. when i draft them myself it comes out great tho, so i KNOW WHAT ITS SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE
Check your tape measure. They streach out over time. So if you are mesureing yourself as a bust 40" and using that to pick out a pattern size but your actual a bust 38" or 37" then your pattern size will always be wrong. But the peices you self draft off you stretched out measuring tape will be consistently sized to your body.
The other option is that you are not following the patterns seam allowance. If you are using 3/8th " Instead of 5/8" then that can introduce a lot of unwanted ease into garment. I used to struggle with that so now I use washi tape on my sewing machine plate as guide.
On the other hand it is amazing that you can self draft patterns and why buy patterns if you don't have too.

ITS FOUR WHOLE INCHES OFF FUCKKKKKK
that explains so muchhhhj woah, my grandma gave me her old sewing supplies. i preffer to use her measureing tape cuz it fully goes around my hips, unlike my shorter newer ones (hers got to 150in, mine get to 75cm)
im gunna have to buy a new one, thank you.
i use the same tape to measure myself as i do when drafting, so it makes sense that there are no issues there.
and of course only her old stuff is in american units, everything else I have is metric. so ibhad nothing to compare it to.
