in all chaos there is calculation, but i'm bad at math

I... okay, so I just started reading Countdown. I read two issues in the standard order before realizing the series is meant to be read backwards. I find it pretty interesting, but after switching to the correct reading order, I’ve already got a lot of questions after just a little bit of reading.
Basically, Duela Dent gets killed. After the Titans attend the funeral, they start investigating and discover that Red Hood is involved.
And then, after that:
Alright, here’s the wiki summary. The power of words is truly something, just reading these lines makes me feel like I’m about to explode.
Let me break it down for you all:
“Jason knew very little about the murder, only that she was killed by an alien,”
Excuse me? I’d argue Jason knew more about the murder than anyone else standing there, considering he was basically right there when it happened. You’d think a description of the guy’s appearance would be valuable. The type of gun he used? His outfit? What about what he told Jason regarding Duela being an anomaly that could harm the multiverse? Or the fact that he intended to kill Jason right after for that very same reason? And then there’s the part where an identical-looking guy showed up and stopped him? I feel like that information could have been incredibly useful.
Meanwhile, the Titans just decided went to the scene of Duela’s murder and found absolutely nothing. I mean, Jason was right there. I don’t know, doesn't it seem like if they had just asked him nicely and thoroughly, they could have gotten a ton of information?
Also:
I actually think Jason has a point.
I mean, all they did was go up to Jason and said they knew that he had his "dirty fingers" in this, and "Were you lying? Did you kill Duela Dent?"
I think the comic tried to portray Jason as uncooperative, given how he fought back and made sarcastic remarks, but even while being accused, he told the truth, and the information came out surprisingly easily. He stated he didn't kill her, that he tried to save her and that her killer was an "alien," and a powerful, smart one. I honestly think if they had just asked politely, they would have learned a lot more.
Secondly…
"Donna has to restrain Nightwing from attacking the brash Jason Todd," "Robin however, feels no such reservation, and kicks Todd in the crotch."
In the comic, the moment they met Jason, they accused him of killing Duela; then Dick and Tim grabbed him, pinning him from both sides. Even in a situation like that, he still managed to punch Tim and kick Dick in the crotch? He only stopped because Ravager intervened. Yet the scene is portrayed as if, had Donna not held Dick back, he would have beaten Jason up?
"Brash Jason”? He voluntarily shared information with them and stopped the moment Ravager stepped in, whereas Dick was the one still struggling while Donna restrained him, ready to pick a fight. And what about Tim? He "feels no such reservations and kicks Jason?" That's when they've already stop the fight and Jason was standing there harmless. He basically proved Jason's point of them just want to pick a fight with Jason rather than really doing the investigation :) He was being incredibly petty and ridiculous. Did they really just go to see Jason to accuse him and beat him up?
If you ask me, then I'll- *quickly deleting everything I was about to say and starting to type furiously* hey, did you see that? There was this guy who approached Jason and very politely asked if he could tell him what happened regarding the Joker's daughter, and Jason said, "Sure, why not?" I just want to cry. Then he told him the whole story from start to finish. Then told him whom to go to and ask. What were the Titans doing, seriously.

Time to move on from the “stop using official Patrol channels to bother your siblings!!” fics for the Batfamily.
May I suggest instead, “stop using random click commands to bother your siblings!” and it’s just Nightwing and Spoiler on patrol hitting “assistance assistance assistance” on their molar clips so it pops up in their comms AND their lenses, and of course there’s the occasional “down down down” when Bruce does something they don’t like and they click “terminate (chase)” whenever Red Hood shows up because it’s hilarious to try and guess what his face is doing AND it’s a dead brother joke all in one.
Alfred’s back in the cave getting “pitstop. pitstop. pitstop question?” because the kids want food after and Bruce is grinding his teeth so hard he breaks the clips because all of his teeth are implants at this point and there’s no click command for “shut the fuck up” other than “opsec opsec opsec” which just encourages them.
Barbara has her own click clips because they’re useful for multitasking, Cass loves spelling out full words with her clips and gets fluent fast, meanwhile Tim has them on all his molars and promptly chips a tooth whenever he tries to use them, Damian needs braces before they fit properly on his teeth and is handling that about as well as you can guess, and Duke loves them because he can decline every single sibling message unless it’s a priority alert.
Except one day, Duke gets hit in the mouth so hard, the clips all short out in his mouth. Instead of groaning about the sparks (Bruce is already working on a better model) Duke feeds them a little and smiles at whoever hit him with a bloody, sparking mouth, and promptly wins “most badass fight” on the sibling board (eh) but then gets Bruce’s praise for not leaving the clips (and the teeth) behind even if they regenerate.
Which is all to say: Batfamily testing is the kind of stress testing corporations pay millions for.

Less Cass and Shiva being mother and daughterly and more Cass and Shiva being inadvertently stuck with each other in bullshit situations where they’re forced to work together
Jason and Tim's relationship being extremely reluctant coworkers who are barely cordial with each other on the off chance they need to work together, but in any other scenario, they either snip and rage bait to the point of exhaustion or aren't within a 100 miles of each other because they couldn't care less about what the other one wants ✅
Jason and Tim's relationship being Jason trying to get on Tim's good side while Tim rage baits him by breaking into his apartment or messing with his helmet in a way that insinuates that Jason is not smart enough to undo, siccing his friends on Jason like attack dogs that call him a 'loser' or a 'bum,' having him stalk Jason and take pictures without knowing to save in an incriminating folder that he supposedly keeps secret from Barbara and the rest of the batfamily ❌
*taps mic* Jason didn’t know that Joker was in the warehouse
Like his death still wouldn’t have been his fault because he was a kid and it was the Joker who murdered him but he also very much so did not disobey Batman because he very much so DID NOT KNOW THE JOKER WAS IN THE WAREHOUSE UNTIL JASON HIMSELF WAS IN THE WAREHOUSE WITH A GUN PULLED ON HIM
I think a lot of the weirdness surrounding Jason’s characterization in post-crisis can be explained by the fact that Dick and Tim must be given a piece of the Jason-pie. Jason had a very compelling and dramatic dynamic with Bruce, so of course Dick and Tim needed to get in on the action as well. (Bruce is emotionally affected by Jason so Tim must prove his mettle by being an unimpressed brick wall. Bruce is “hated” by Jason so Dick’s specialness is proven by how Jason still likes and admires Dick, etc)
Anyways this is kinda salty but something I like to indulge in sometimes is reading all of Jason’s appearances in their comics as being solely their perception of Jason, rather than how he really was. The way Jason is used in their stories says something about their characters, but what does it say when the narrative isn’t particularly set on propping them up as the protagonists?
Tim thinks Jason is an emotionally unstable reckless idiot whose ideas are wayyyy too extreme, Dick thinks Jason is straight up crazy (literally as well as in the derogatory sense) and they both think that Jason is obsessed with them.
In Titan’s Tower and Brothers in Blood, Jason’s return ignites a minor identity crisis in both of them. Jason comes to Tim raving about being forgotten. Tim seems to resent Jason’s memory— for being the Robin that died, that failed Batman, and stained the mantle.
Jason comes to Dick as an evil doppelgänger. An image of what Dick might’ve been, or could still become if he lets go of himself. Unlike Tim’s Jason who simply is inferior, Dick’s Jason has a whole inferiority complex. Dick’s Jason noticeably lacks any of “real” Jason’s usual pragmatism (a trait that even Tim’s Jason has) and is instead just a childish copycat performer… what does that say about Dick’s unconscious impression of Jason?
Applying this lens to UTH itself is also interesting. (Of course we can’t say the entire comic is just Bruce hallucinating, but we can consider the comic to be the story of the “actual” events as told by Bruce.)
That UTH is written pretty much entirely from Bruce and Alfred’s perspective, with no thought boxes from Jason’s POV at all, indicates that Bruce doesn’t assume (or can’t predict) what Jason is thinking.
Bruce does understand that Jason is a pragmatist, but he also (incorrectly) connects Jason’s cynicism as Red Hood to Jason’s attitude as Robin. To Bruce, Jason was not an idealist who was burned— he was already a cynic as a child and he only got worse.
The fact that only Jason’s harshest interactions with criminals are depicted is also interesting, because this is a comic where Bruce straight up calls criminals garbage, and can be quoted as calling them “malignant scum that ravage the city.” Bruce seems to think that Jason’s willingness to kill is the result of having the same contempt for ~criminal scum~ but less temperance. It’s possible/likely that Bruce holds himself responsible for Jason’s actions; if not his actions then his attitude.

maybe i would care more about the headcanon/somewhat implied canon of Jason being a csa victim if the fandom cared more about the explicit canon that Stephanie is
I explained the concept of "blorbo from my shows" to my 71 year old immigrant grandfather because I referenced it in passing and I thought nothing of it, until today when he said "I think I'll watch peaky blinders tonight and see my blorbo from my shows" referring, of course, to Cillian Murphy playing Tommy Shelby
English isn't his first language so he's not super in touch with modern slang, so I've been accidentally teaching him to talk like a tumblr user. His favorite thing to say lately is "me when I'm a little hater" when he's like talking shit about the neighbor's son
I explained the “x before gta6” meme to my immigrant father and he, in turn, explained to me how back in his day in Romania, they had the same type of joke, except instead of it being gta6, it was about the imminent death of a singer named Gică Petrescu, who everyone was continuously shocked by because he refused to die. Every time a momentous event happened people would say, in essence: “This happened and Gică Petrescu hasn’t even died yet?!?”
So. He understood the gta6 meme immediately because they apparently had the same thing in Romania when he was young, except way, way more morbid
I'm going to use this as a jumping off point to mention the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act.
It's... pretty much what it says on the tin. Some car manufacturers are phasing out AM Radio from their cars so they can replace them with their own streaming services - this bill seeks to make them a mandatory feature.
As somebody whose day job is in radio, I totally agree that the amount of ads and the quality of the ads is ridiculous. Personally, I don't find radio to be an amazing source of political news broadcasting.
But do you know what it is really good at? Providing emergency broadcasts during extreme weather events.
When power and internet is down, radio can be one of the only sources of information, and it's helped provide lifesaving information during these times.
(Plus, at least in my area of the country, emergency weather alerts override and interrupt programming when broadcast - even during pesky ads!)
So if you want to toss your signature in support, you can head on over here.
I want to make it clear I'm not an expert in this legislation or anything - this is just the stuff I know through working in the industry.
AM radio can be one of the only available and reliable sources of local/regional news, weather and traffic, emergency or not. Not to mention community broadcasts.
(Plus, have you listened to any podcasts lately? It’s literally six minutes of ads on either end)
Also you can build an AM radio receiver out of little more than scrap. Are you going to? No, almost certainly not, but the point is that the technology is simple, cheap, robust and repairable.
final knowledge bomb is that most phones actually have the ability to tune into FM radio but its deactivated in software in north american phones. In india its a universal feature as people listen to a lot of radio there.
My own personal phone has FM radio enabled, and it might be possible to do on a phone with developer privileges unlocked or with custom firmware.
this is going to sound like such a little sibling ass take but i genuinely believe that being a little bit annoying is actually a greater sign of maturity and self awareness than being universally likeable and on good terms with everyone
if some people find me annoying and can't stand me because of how i think and act then that means i'm a fully realized human being with my own personality and opinions and free will and not just a reflective surface for other people's desires, which is in fact a good thing despite what people who want you to just be a reflection of their own opinions and desires will tell you, and why being considered "cringe" or whatever doesn't bother me at all
also it's really funny when you're confident enough in yourself to know that people not liking you isn't always a sign that you're the problem. like there's something undeniably hilarious about being aware your mere existence has the power to piss someone off and ruin their day and i recommend embracing it.
i think "jason getting captured by the justice league because they don't know he is red hood" stories would be so much more compelling to me if they did not write the jl as ignorant and utterly incompetent without batman around.
