please read this even if you're not indian. especially if you're not indian.
you've seen the jokes. india is "dirty", indians are "everywhere", why don't they fix their own country. ok. let me tell you why, and what's happening right now while nobody's watching.
first, the history you skipped: britain ruled india for two centuries and drained it. economist utsa patnaik's research estimates around $45 trillion in today's money was taken. the india that got independence in 1947 was one of the poorest countries on earth. every "why is india like this" question starts there. you don't get to profit off a robbery and then mock the crime scene.
now, what's happening RIGHT NOW:
in may the question paper for NEET leaked. that's the national medical entrance exam. over 2.2 million students took it. cancelled. years of studying, families' savings poured into coaching, gone overnight because someone sold the paper. students died by suicide after. these were kids who wanted to be doctors.
and out of that came a protest movement. a gen z group called the cockroach janta party, started by a 30 year old named abhijeet dipke, got 22 million instagram followers within DAYS. they've been doing a sit-in at jantar mantar in delhi demanding education minister dharmendra pradhan resign.
and then there's sonam wangchuk. if you've watched 3 idiots, he's the real engineer the character was based on. built solar schools in ladakh. invented ice stupas so himalayan villages have water. spent his whole life on education. he's 59 and he's been on hunger strike for 17+ days now. reporters went to see him this week and he was too weak to talk. and the troll armies are calling him "anti national" and "foreign funded". a man starving himself for other people's children. that's the thing here, anyone who asks a question is suddenly a traitor.
it's not one incident, it's everywhere you look:
⢠infrastructure worth thousands of crores failing within months of the ribbon cutting. tunnels collapsing in regions where heavy rain is a guarantee, not a surprise.
⢠youth unemployment near 10% for ages 15 to 29, 13.6% in cities. in a country of 1.42 billion where more than half the population is young.
⢠only about the top 3% of indians earn above 10 lakh a year. meanwhile billionaire wealth keeps ballooning and the headlines celebrate it.
⢠manipur burned for over two years. an ethnic conflict, tens of thousands displaced, and the prime minister barely said the word manipur while it happened.
⢠journalists raided. critics' houses bulldozed. activists sitting in jail for years without trial under laws like UAPA. our press freedom ranking has cratered.
⢠even the petrol is a fight now, ethanol blending pushed through while drivers complain about their engines and get no straight answers.
and through all of it, the PM, who came to power on religious polarisation (americans, sound familiar?), travels abroad for photo ops and has not held one single open press conference in over a decade. not one.
what i'm asking:
if you're not indian: share this. our media mostly won't cover any of it because the big outlets are owned by the same billionaires the government serves. the only reason wangchuk's fast is getting any coverage is people refusing to look away.
if you ARE indian: speak up even if you're comfortable. especially if you're comfortable. join the protests. add to this, correct me, translate it. staying quiet is a choice when nothing in this post touches your life.
india is not "dirty". india was robbed, and it's being robbed again, from the inside this time. but it's also the country where a 59 year old will starve for strangers' kids and 22 million young people will rally behind a party literally named after cockroaches, because cockroaches survive everything.
we can still save her. but only loudly.
reblog. share. don't scroll past.

Several wildfires are forcing members of a number of First Nations to flee their homes in northern Ontario.
âI had time to run home and pack a bag and get to the beach where the boats were waiting,â said a member of Namaygoosisagagun First Nation (Collins). âWe literally had minutes to get on the boats and flee before it took our town. âOnce we left my house finally after packing what I could in a pack sack, the fire was right behind our place. We had to run to the beach and once we got there, it was only moments before the fire had jumped over the (train) track and was coming for us.â
it has since been confirmed that namaygoosisagagun first nation has completely burnt to the ground. if you would like to help the community navigate an ongoing crisis, i urge you to donate to the anishinabek nation 7th generation, a registered charity seeking to improve the lives of first nations people. donations are going directly to members of namaygoosisagagun first nation.

every year small towns and indigenous communities across canada are burnt to nothing by horrific wildfires and americans go on the internet to complain about it and blame us bc the smoke has spread to their state. iâm so tired.
go yell at mark carney or your own local politicians about climate change and urge them to do more to stop it. the namaygoosisagagun first nation had their community destroyed today. you can find a link to donate to them here. donate to your local food bank. go to the beach next week when the smoke clears and you donât have to think about it anymore while the people whoâs lives have been destroyed will have to pick up the pieces and try to move forward when we are already in a huge cost of living crisis across the country.
rbing with other places you can donate to to support those impacted by the fires!
true north aid (an organization aimed at providing support to remote/northern indigenous people in canada)
canadian red cross wildfire fund
ontario spca and humane society (links to their donate page specifically aimed at supporting pets and animals in areas impacted by the fires)
and the anishinabek nationâs page where you can donate to support the namaygoosisagagun nation who had their land destroyed by the fires is still accepting donations
Remember when i said after they passed the Transgender Amendment Bill, they would come for your rights next?
It was a peaceful protest. Students (mind you, TEENAGERS) were purposefully locked inside jantar mantar. They did not panic. The police launched tear gas, beat them with lathis, and AK-47s at students with books and flowers in their hands. For people who have been living under a rock, or who live outside India, do you know what this protest was against?
Over an exam leak. Over a national exam leak which caused 2.2 million students to retake the test. At least 12 students commited suicide. And instead of taking responsibility?
They will come for you.
The pills meme but it's things i wish i had
india is not a democracy anymore.
everyone needs to hear about the situation in india right now. the youth of this nation are going through hell and back to protect the foundations that our country was built on in the first place, while the adults who are supposed to actually be in charge try to silence our voices.
NEET, which is an exam taken by millions of students per year and is the ONLY gateway for medical admissions across the country, had its papers leaked. so many took their lives because this exam meant everything for their future. and NTA, the agency who conducts this exam, was not held accountable.
there was national backlash. cockroach janta party (initially a satirical political party formed by abhijeet dipke in retaliation to the remarks of the chief justice of india calling the youth "cockroaches" and "parasites of society") started protests at jantar mantar, demanding the resignation of the union education minister, dharmendra pradhan. the movement also asked for ten million inr (~100,000 usd) in compensation for the families of students who died by suicide and wanted NTA be held accountable.
sonam wangchuk, a climate activist and education reformer, also went on a hunger strike at jantar mantar to protest against this corruption in india's higher education system. his fast began on june 28, demanding the resignation of the union education minister. his fast lasted for 20 days until delhi police FORCIBLY removed him and admitted him to safdarjung hospital on july 18.
because of this, cockroach janta party announced "chalo sansad," a march to the parliament beginning on june 20th, 9:00 am ist. but the police seems to be responding with water cannons, mobile jammers, and baton charge. all of this, because of a peaceful protest led by people no older than 30.
and yet there has been absolutely no indian media coverage about a movement that spans the entirety of this nation. so, please, if you see this, keep talking about us. we will not let those old bastards stoop any lower than they've already had. we will not let them ruin our country any further. we will not be silenced

Far worse, in my opinion, than the famous âhe wouldnât fucking say thatâ is âhe WOULD fucking say that, as part of his facade, but you seem to think he would mean it genuinelyâ
Se also "he DID say that and he was LYING, and somehow you didn't notice."
Marco Rubio says the administration will try to âdismantleâ the ICC. Who is he trying to protect?
Trump is not a fan if the International Criminal Court (ICC). Maybe it's because his pardons and his cronies on the US Supreme Court have no sway there.
The highest compliment that can be paid to the International Criminal Court is that the Trump administration is terrified of it. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed that fear this week by declaring that the administration would use âall the tools at our governmentâs disposalâ to âdismantleâ the ICC. [ ... ] The ICC, which is based in The Hague, came into being in 2002 after more than 100 countries ratified the Rome Statute. Under that treaty, the court has jurisdiction to prosecute and try people for committing various crimes under international law, ranging from war crimes to genocide. Most of its prosecutions to date have targeted dictators and warlords in Africa and Asia. [ ... ] More than a few top Trump officials have good reason to worry about their own legal culpability before the ICCâand the effect it could have on their post-administration lifeârather than that of the average American cop or soldier.
People like Trump, Whiskey Pete Hegseth, and Stephen Miller will have to be careful where they set foot after 20 January 2029.
They've committed war crimes, they KNOW they have committed war crimes, and are scared AF of being held accountable for the war crimes they have committed. ICC needs to prosecute every last one of these fuckers.
Apparently, at least according to Tom Homan, Trumpâs border czar, everyone who attacked the US Capitol should have been summarily executed by the Capitol Police. At least, thatâs what it sounds like he believes given his thoughts about ICE killings of ordinary people ICE is engaging:
âAll they had to do was simply comply with law enforcement. If you donât like what law enforcement did to you, then go to the courts. Sue. Call ACLU. Do whatever you want to do. You should always comply with law enforcement. If they did, theyâd be alive today.â

House Democrats grill Vought over DOGEâs CFPB Data Drives
âDo you even know the extent of the data held by the CFPB that Elon Musk and anyone else associated with DOGE had access to?â the California Democrat asked. âDo you have a record of all the data that was accessed? Have you done any investigation into whether CFPBâs data is secure? Yes or no.â
âCongresswoman, we had a Department of Government Efficiency, itâs something weâre very proud of âŚâ Vought said before Waters reclaimed her time and followed up with additional yes-or-no questions that the Office of Management and Budget director didnât answer.
