It was a peaceful protest. Students (mind you, TEENAGERS) were purposefully locked inside jantar mantar. They did not panic. The police launched tear gas, beat them with lathis, and squads pointed AK-47s at students with books and flowers in their hands. For people who have been living under a rock, or who live outside India, do you know what this protest was against?
Over an exam leak. Over a national exam leak which caused 2.2 million students to retake the test. At least 12 students commited suicide. And instead of taking responsibility?
They will come for you.
Edit: The AK-47 is referring to the sudden increase in security around the parliament. You have to do a bit of digging to find it but there are multiple videos from different angles. Doesn't exactly change the fact that the protestors were students and they were actively pointing it at them.
Don't call yourself a democracy if you have to spray tear gas into students' faces during a peaceful protest.TEAR GAS. Go research about what kind of harm it causes.
I apologize for making a non-BTS post, but my heart aches over what happened to the students, children, parents, and everyone who stood in support of the protest in Delhi yesterday.
I am incredibly proud of those who came together and raised their voices... not only in Delhi, but in every corner of the country.
I am also proud of those who continue to speak up online, spread awareness, and refuse to stay silent under the excuse that they "don't want to get involved in politics."
And to those saying, "If this were a dictatorship, you wouldn't be able to post about it online," I am tired of hearing that argument. If people are being beaten for demanding their rights, what would you call that?
Is the spread of false narratives through paid media not a concern? Is the deployment of RAF personnel without visible name tags while on duty not something worth questioning? This is not the democracy I was taught about in school.
I know many of you here may not be Indian, but I felt it was important to share this so more people understand what is happening in my country.
Asking for a better education system is not a crime. Demanding accountability for paper leaks in national-level competitive examinations is not a crime. Yet students and their supporters were treated as though they were terrorists.
They deserved to be heard, not silenced.
that education minster's resignation IS NOT ENOUGH. it will not fix the education system. more importantly, it will not fix this country. i need all of you to understand this is bigger than one minister, bigger than education, and bigger than yourselves. our fight isn't over until the current system itself burns in hell.
edit: to clarify, i changed the wording because i also agree the bjp is not the root cause of india's problems. that is something deeply systemic and is what should be focused on at large. that being said, i still hope the bjp also burns in hell!
