I just finished reading Piranesi and, since he got that "prophecy" from the birds I kept reading and analysing if everything that happened did in fact occur based on what the birds communicated with the statues, and they did
- A message from afar
Piranesi finds all the torn pages in the seagulls nests, and combined them to make what we later discover are the missing pages of his diaries
It's a message from a bygone time of his life that he forgot and has yet to claim his own again.
- Dark scriptures (disclaimer: I didn't read the book in English, so idk how the originals are called lmao)
Piranesi discovers the first diaries contain entries that don't make sense to him, attributing them to a time in his life where he must've been mad
The content of the entries is mysterious, dark.
- Eroded innocence
Piranesi is an innocent person by nature. Naive, constantly sees the good in everything and everyone.
When he uncovers the truth of why he's in the House and how he got there, that innocence is broken: he sees how The Other was never his friend, he was his captor and manipulated and used him to his own advantage.
This isn't really a breakthrough, I just love when a piece of media gives foreshadowing and I manage to notice them and piece stuff together lmao
Also I read they're making a movie out of this? Can't wait to see how it turns out
Not me completely forgetting I had also started a third matthias & maxime fic with them being fwb I opened my Google docs and saw this third forgotten document and went
Saw a "Saying I'm stronger than him just to get pinned against a wall right after" post and yeah I can see Max ragebait Matt to get himself pinned against a wall 🧱

Matt and Max keeping their relationship a (not so well kept) secret for the first few months and then when Max comes home for the holidays he stays at Matt's place and the next day when they meet with the guys he sports a big ass purple hickey on his collarbone cause Matt is a biter #changemymind

hey there you beautiful soul, would you be so kind to talk a little bit about deleted scenes on the mattias-et-maxime dvd? or was it blu-ray? or whatever. is it worth purchasing? would so love to read your take on the scenes anyways. thank you so much. love your blog and vibe, seems so... zen. tender zen :)
Anon, this is super kind! "Tender zen" is goals lol.
Regarding the DVD, yesssss it's so worth it. (Make sure to get the Francophone version. The MUBI English-language DVD only has interviews.)
One, the DVD case is beautiful. Two, it comes with a stack of postcard-sized double-sided prints of behind-the-scenes stills. Three, THE DELETED SCENES. The deleted scenes are everything. Although it's a bit of a Pandora's Box, like...I can't unsee what I have seen, and even though the scenes were cut they add so much more to the characters...confession: I watched the deleted kiss while I was struggling through the sixth or seventh draft of Headwind and afterward I was like oh Max 100% cancels his trip and he 100% bottoms and Matt 100% immediately proposes marriage (I don't know if you've read any of my fic but this is huge for me, a steadfast bottom!Matt writer, lolol) — I'm rambling, but basically, I think some scenes were cut because they were too music video-y (les amours imaginaires aesthetic) and some scenes were cut because they straight-up demolish the narrative tension. You watch those scenes and you know they're going to end up together.
The deleted scenes (I'm only going to talk about a few of them, iirc there are 9 or 10 in all - I know the birthday party scene is on YT)
Spoilers (??) + a terrible cellphone video of The Kiss
Max at the bar - until I watched this, I thought Max and Lisa worked together at a pretty raucous bar/strip club, but actually it's a really low-key smoky place for older working class Francophones, one of whom shows up near the end of the film to make fun of Max's English (after he calls Ruiz & Associates). this scene shows Max flipping through a heavily annotated and bookmarked coffee table book on Australia. if nothing else it highlighted to me the sort of...helpless childishness of the dream, like his idea of Australia is a vintage picture of a blond cowboy herding cattle in the bush, oh Max. without this context, in the film, my impression at least was that Max had planned everything and was being pretty systematic about his decision, but after I saw this scene I had to wonder if he had actually thought about his life in Australia beyond completing the steps for the working visa.
Erika's extended explanation - right before the kiss at the lake house. it's the scene where Erika is going on and on about how "you're like, two women or two men, and then bam!"/"super expressionist but like impressionist at the same time" etc. this is just a longer version. no idea how anyone managed to keep a straight face during this scene, Camille Felton was too freaking good. I was dying.
Max after the fight with Manon - poor baby!! this one's Manon mocking Max from the sofa while Max cries offscreen (just before he punches the mirror) and a sequence post-mirror-break where he cleans himself up. I can see why it was cut—maybe the agony was too intense for what Xavier calls one of his most ~restrained films. (some kind soul has put this on YouTube - Scène coupée)
Three dudes carrying a mattress - hilariously weird, complete tonal shift from the rest of the film. takes place just after the farewell dinner, while la bande is waiting for Matt and Sarah to finish their discussion. Max sees three attractive young men carrying a mattress down the street in slow motion. the music that plays is similar to the very avant-garde metallic screeching and grinding that played during Erika's short film. Max makes eye contact.
THE. KISS - ok so I already made a post where I absolutely lost my shit about this, but basically, yes the kiss at Shariff's is THE one good movie kiss, but this kiss blows it out of the water. Imo, the kiss at Shariff's shows us two people who want to have sex with each other and are still kind of amazed and frightened by the depth of their desire, but there's some ambiguity about how they actually feel (love or lust?); the kiss in Erika's film is two people in love. the distinction! is wild! how many times have i watched this (more times than I care to admit)! it starts out so awkwardly but boy! howdy! do they get into it. and so quickly! they're just. melting into it. Matt's smiling. Matt's pulling Max closer. it's so good it's so good but at the same time it absolutely could not have gone into the film because it makes the whole thing a foregone conclusion. in those few seconds you can see it all over Matt's face: he is stupid in love.
I tried to rip the kiss scene so I could upload it but alas I am a dinosaur. I have a shaky phone video of it instead. 😅 Enjoy?
Holy fuck thank you. I admit I saw your reply with the post's link, opened it, read the whole thing, sighed dreamily at the kiss video and then went back to reread Headwind and the sequel again.
The "terrible", how you described it, cellphone recording of The Kiss actually gives it a more romantic aura to it, somehow, like I'm watching an old video of my parents being in love and I'm just there intruding, if that makes sense
I watched the birthday party deleted scene on YouTube a couple weeks ago and tbh, I wish it was left in the movie cause it adds more depth to Matt's internal struggle about Sarah, when I watched it it was clear to me what the elevator scene meant, where he's staring at that girl's back. It was a little confusing on the first time watch ngl.
Thank you again for this deleted scenes explanation 😌
