drives me up the fucking wall when i say "not all of florida is like that" whenever i try to contest the neverending classist and sometimes racist jokes that non-floridians (and north floridians who have never been down here and say "oh broward/dade suck," which is kind of insanely racist but that's a discussion for another day/community) make about the state, people are like "ok but its 2 counties, the rest of the state is racist and conservative as fuck"...those 2 counties are like 30% of the state population...like there are cities here that are functionally spanish only, south florida is not majority white, its just INSANELY gerrymandered, that's it, so many of the places you consider bigoted hick backwaters are stuffed to the brim with brown and black people, queer people, everyone, and gerrymandered to hell, and this is just the southernmost region of a state with a population of 23 million. i remember when the abortion bans came here ahead of the roe v wade overturn and people just made jokes about separating florida from the rest of the mainland while those of us here begged the rest of the country to take it seriously, pointing out that when horrible legislation like this hits florida it usually heralds similar trouble on the federal level

went to one of my friends apartments for the first time last night and he had a small but meticulously kept aquarium with all these plants and i went to look and it was 1 shrimp and some suckerfish that the shrimps able to chill with. but the shrimp is the centerpiece of this enclosure. and i asked my friend what the shrimps name is and he was like thats greg
