#ugh #my freshman year English prof was so totally self centered and yearned for some Dead Poets Society spiritual experience. except he didn’t #want to teach material or engage with what students cared for #he just wanted to pick random topics and debate us #except. he needed to win the debate and also didnt teach debate tactics #so he just wanted to argue and win over 18 year olds #and if no one cared about his tik tok topic then he would yell at us for being antisocial #and if we responded he would humiliate us #yes humiliate #because if you gave a sliver of pushback. which is what he begged for. he would bombard you with info about the topic you were not told.#then act like the whole class agrees with the opposite opinion #and then LITERALLY laugh at you #it wasn’t an English class #it was a improvised debate against someone who choose and researched the topic and is also 15 years older #once we were ‘discussing’ the ethics of keeping a brain dead patient on life support #and I dared to argue against it #and then he came up with the lie that in the case we were discussing the woman had eventually woke up. and even though it was a lie he then #used that to form a argument on why I was wrong.#then laughed #then quickly went ‘just kidding. she eventually was taken off life support and died’#like bro you just went off on me for being wrong in front of everyone #or when he made us share our essays (yes he assigned us essays without ever teaching a thing about essay structure) with the entire class so #they could make comments live while we read them #and he didn’t like my topic so he just gave me other topics i should of choose #yet again without any real constructive criticism #he once ended class early because he was so mad at us for not debating the ethics of nutraloaf #once he just went ‘why do I hate this? why is this so stupid? come on! tell me!’ and the video was this tik tok of a girl suggesting #that other girls go on walks #like no one cares #give us a passage and some questions
