A reasonably significant factor in this is actually GDPR - not the most significant by a long way, but a surprising amount of data now HAS to be stored and processed in the UK. This ranges from things as complex and vital as “running the railways” where it’s a matter of security to have everything in house, all the way down to “the contact details of everyone who signed up to this small museums mailing list” where they’re not equipped to hunt down international data centres who are GDPR compliant (and may indeed not even know where their data is being stored and accessed). It’s a pretty fascinating landscape out there

the idea that restrooms, locker rooms, etc need to be single-sex spaces in order for women to be safe is patriarchy's way of signalling to men & boys that society doesn't expect them to behave themselves around women. it is directly antifeminist. it would be antifeminist even if trans people did not exist. a feminist society would demand that women should be safe in all spaces even when there are men there.

It's not "incorrect" to treat tabletop RPG character creation as a guided OC creation tool – heck, it's not even novel; the first published tabletop RPG to explicitly frame character creation as a standalone solo minigame came out in like 1977 – but you do need to recognise that each character creation system is tuned to produce a very particular Type of Guy. Yes, even the ostensibly "generic" ones. This isn't a flaw – obviously you want character creation for a game to strongly push people toward creating characters who are both willing and able to participate in the things the game in question is about – but it's something to be aware of when using tabletop RPGs in this way. If you're trying to use Dungeons & Dragons as a creative framework for a character who would never under any circumstances voluntarily go into a dungeon to fight a dragon, you're gonna have a rough time!

WoD’s kinda messy character creation could probably be streamlined into the question “what’s wrong with you??” Tbh
