This June, I need Gen Z queers to understand that some people are closeted.
I am saying this as a Gen Z queer, before yāall get your guns out to fucking shoot me.
But I need yāall to understand that if someone doesnāt give you their government name in a queer space, itās not because theyāre āmysterious,ā and you do not have permission to take it upon yourself to figure out their āreal identityā and go digging for them online like a private investigator. First, thatās creepy and a violation of privacy and reasonable boundaries. Second, some of us keep our private and professional lives very separate because we need to keep food on the fucking table and a roof over our heads, and our private life could jeopardize that.
āWhy wonāt you tell me about your parents?ā āWhy canāt I know your real name?ā āWhere do you work?ā
1.) Not all our parents would bake us a fucking cake when we come out. Some of us are closeted. Surely you understand this? You also do not need to know my parentās names or occupations; we are both adults. I do not need nor want to mix you and my private life with my parents and my public life.
2.) Trans people do not owe you their dead name or government name
3.) Iām not telling you for the sake of job security. I am a government fucking caseworker working amidst a fucking lavender panic!
āThereās no way youāre a different person outside this; youāre still you at your core. What harm is thereāā
No, I am a completely different person. A different person with a different personality and different interests and a different name and presentation. I am a completely different person because I keep this life and my public life private to avoid fracturing 90% of my interpersonal relationships and 100% of my professional ones.
āYouāre not out? But youāre so confident.ā
Seeā thatās part of the issue. Yāall assume someone is in the closet because they hate themselves or lack self-identity. Some of us know exactly who we are, but need to prioritize financial stability or else our entire life gets exponentially harder immediately.
You meet queer people over the age of 40 and one of the first/earliest questions is āwho knows?ā
I need yāall to start bringing that energy. Because itās not always safe for someone to be out and not everyone is safe to be out around.
There is a misnomer that āthe closetā inherently means ādoesnāt know theyāre queerā and not āisnāt out widely and publicly.ā āOutnessā is often a patchwork.
Even if someone who isnt out does share any life details with you, you keep those to yourself. You tread carefully and assume others dont know until told otherwise. And sometimes you lie and help keep that closet door shut. It is ok to feel super weird about it if someone comes out to you as trans but tells you to only use their preferred name and pronouns privately just the two of you. It's fine to feel uncomfortable when people ask you if a gay person has an opposite gendered partner. It is so valid to feel weird and bad deadnaming someone even though they requested it. It stops being valid if you do anything other than they asked. Feel your feelings, and keep them to yourself - someone else's identity isn't about you.
Now that everyone is discussing Nolan's Odyssey movie, I feel like it's a good time to let non-Italians know that the production dumped plastic props into the Italian sea. Weirdly enough I could not find any article in English about it but it's a fucking problem nonetheless.
I might translate this article later today. This one was the most complete one, even in Italian news it's not talked about that much.
Non è la prima volta che la produzione solleva un vespaio in Sicilia. A Lipari una squadra di sub sarebbe però già impegnata a bonificare i
They dumped plastic skeletons in environmentally protected areas, against the literal contracts they had to sign to get the permits to film in environmentally protected areas. Like they not only did a bad ecological thing that freaked out some divers, they literally broke environmental protection laws and their contract with the Italian government
Concerns about prop disposal as filming on new Nolan film comes to a close | www.italianinsider.it
Hereās one in English.
You are an adventurer in a generic fantasy world and you use this weapon!
Do you like it?

This was my art schoolās water fountain. Drink from them wolf tiddies
Assignment misunderstood. I have now built a city.
Give it a day
And we call MDs āhuman doctorsā who practice āhuman medicineā
What did you think all those Garfield collections were for
We had stacks of newspapers, magazines, or books that were meant to live in the bathroom.
A lot of us genuinely did read labels and ingredient lists. SMH. Especially when we forgot a book or some other form of entertainment. This is shampoo bottle erasure. Just because YOU were reasonable enough to leave something in the bathroom does not make it a universal experience. Some of us are stupid.
Cage to table today!
We butchered 16 of the extra males this morning, put them in a marinade for the day, and cooked them in the air fryer for dinner! I dry plucked a few of them for the first time ever, just to see how plucking would be... It REALLY made a difference in the air fryer, the skin on birds were a lot juicier and tastier.
I haven't butchered quail in a while (I've just culled for feeders for animals for friends), but it was still really easy. We just got the air fryer a couple weeks ago, so this was also the first time cooking the quail in it.... They took about 15 minutes to cook and while they were resting Sark cooked the tater tots so it was all ready at the same time!
With how easy it was, it might be easier now to do a few on any given morning where I want to eat quail for dinner. It would certainly make better use of all the extra boys I have had during this breeding project, without having to take up freezer space or remember to thaw the day before. Convenient! Fresh meat!
Do you know how quail compare in size to Cornish hens? Obviously they'll taste different being totally different birds but they look kind of similar to me.
I don't know because I can't find reliable info about Cornish hens. Meat quail (jumbos) SHOULD weigh 10-16oz, with most falling between 10 and 14. I haven't seen a healthy line hold up consistently to 14+. And jumbo lines don't ALWAYS produce 10+ birds (there will be smaller ones but the majority should be 10+), selection pressure must be upkept, and that means culling the smallest to eat and breeding the biggest.
The advantage of quail is they eat less and they take up less space and they don't sound like chickens, they sound like wild birds. So it's harder for neighbors to get upset because they don't actually realize you even have poultry. You also don't need anything special to process them, idk what you need for chickens, but I believe it's more than a pair of kitchen shears and a bucket.
Re: chickens, depends on your comfort level with cervical dislocation. If you are able to do a cervical dislocation, then all you need is some heavy sheers (good kitchen scissors will do) and a bucket much like quail. That being said, cervical dislocation is kinda hard to learn (if youāre not confident and swift then itās just cruel). I learned in school with DEAD chickens. Iām personally more confident in my ability to cervically dislocate than cleanly cut a head off. After theyāre dead, itās just Big Quail.
Ime commercial meat quail are usually about 1/2-2/3 the size of a Cornish game hen? Which is both a large range and more vibes based than weight based. Standard size (not jumbo) quail are probs more in the 1/3-1/2 range.
I personally have always plucked my quail (the skin is the best part!) and never done any of the tips for plucking, Iāve always found it easy enough, especially the quantity I was culling. I donāt regularly hatch and raise birds, so Iāve done mine in small batches. I havenāt tried the air fryer. I usually spatchcock them and pan fry for crispy skin, but air fryer sounds handy and low input.
i was training a young person at work, and she referred to sexual assault as "SA" out loud, and i immediately was like, "no, it's sexual assault, call it what it is," bc idgaf if the algorithm overlords have taught y'all that you should fear direct language, how tf do any of you expect to ever address real issues with any amount of seriousness if you can't even say the words? imagine an advocate looking a sexual assault survivor in the eyes and asking "did he grape you?" it's absolutely fucking absurd, but these young interns and new hires are coming into an environment where we deal with survivors of all different kinds of abuse, and they're coming with the mindset that the words are as bad as the actions, and that makes them shitty at the job and look juvenile af
i HATE self-censorship for a lot of reasons, but being in crisis work makes it even more frustrating. who are you censoring for? like i am being so fr, WHO are you censoring for? have you even thought it through? people who have been raped know that they have been raped. if someone attempts suicide or is grieving someone who did, saying "sewer slide" isn't going to protect them from any of the feelings. a murder victim's family isn't going to feel better bc you said "unalived" instead of murdered. if anything, it's just extremely invalidating and othering. it's saying "what happened to you is so bad that i won't even say the word," which is NOT trauma-informed care. you are not protecting survivors/victims when you self-censor. the ONLY things you protect when you self-censor are the puritanical ideologies that are being encouraged by rich fascists who want your money and obedience
say the fucking words, guys. just say the goddamn words before i go insane!!!

theĀ āsexy lamp testā but for disabled folks: if you can replace your disabled character with a beloved pet dog that needs an expensive surgery to survive then you have to throw out your manuscriptĀ
reblogging one of my most underrated posts: the dying dog test
Iām gonna make my medical school advisees do this on their application essays too I think.
what is THE worst thing you've ever drank. all liquids acceptable. please tell me what it was, bonus points for why
Hey whoa hi. Hello. I am looking directly into your ear canal. What do you mean you drank a tube of virus concentrate.
So, I was working in a lab, right? My job in the lab was preparing a pure, concentrated enough sample of virus. This is tricky since, y'know, viruses require hosts to replicate, but you then need to get the host cells (and the pieces of the host cells that died!) out of the sample while still keeping the viruses. Once I'd finished and the samples had been sent to the database for analysis as well as a second one sent to be frozen for future reference, there was still some left over that needed to be disposed of.
I, knowing that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity, waited carefully for the lab director to be deep in conversation with someone else on the other side of the laboratory. And then I took my chance.
Test tubes, as it turns out, are really bad as shot glasses. Their shape turns any liquid inside into a stream, so you really can't knock it back quickly - it takes a couple seconds. Additionally, the best way I can describe the taste of virus concentrate was "sterile rot". A very unique kind of bad! Made worse by the test tube's inefficiency as a shot glass.
(by the way we were studying bacteriophages, not animal viruses. these viruses are too specialized on attacking prokaryotes to even recognize our cells as targets at all, according to studies.)
(but also like. if the viruses managed to successfully switch hosts and killed me with a violent infection, itd still be worth it.)
(for science.)
You have a fitting blog title
this post is getting 50k easy
So apparently, over the summer, Quibi (the shortest-lasting streaming service ever lmao) did a quarantine project called āHome Movie: The Princess Brideā where a bunch of celebrities recreated The Princess Bride in tiny chunks at home.
And like there was no permanent cast, all these celebrities seem to have gotten a scene or part of a scene to do (iām not sure exactly, I did not ever watch Quibi and thus havenāt seen this yet), and then they just⦠recreated it as best they could. At home. Under quarantine.
So like, you had Jennifer Garner in a blanket cape playing Princess Buttercup AND the Booing Old Woman with a crowd comprised entirely of stuffed animals:
Or Taika Waititi paying Westley off a badly-drawn Inigo on a piece of cardboard held in front of someoneās face:
And itās all just delightful.
But my absolute favorite part of this thing that Iāve sadly never seen but assume is probably absolutely hilarious and a treasure and I want to find it some day and watch the whole thing⦠is that Carey Elwes is in it.
As Prince Fucking Humperdink.

In case you need a comfort watch and because Youtube search nowadays sucks rancid farts, I remind you of the Princess Bride Home Movie from the lockdown, starring everybody
hey can everyone do me a favor and put in the tags why they chose their name? even if you don't go by a chosen name irl, you can put why you chose your online name.
Do you have a favored sourdough cookie recipe? We are also hunkering down and baking all day because I have a quart of sourdough discard to use up and cookies are next on the docket
oh I hope I'm not too late! This is my recipe:
14 tablespoons unsalted butter, slightly softened
100g granulated sugar
125g brown sugar
1 large egg
250g sourdough starter, unfed/discard
1 ¼ tablespoon vanilla extract
¼-½ teaspoon almond extract
260-300g all-purpose flour
7g salt 1 teaspoon baking soda (add a little for more floof)
1-2 cups large chocolate chips (to taste)
In a large bowl, cream the softened butter, BOTH sugars (white and brown), and salt.
Add the egg, vanilla, and almond extracts to the mixture, stir until mixed.
Stir in the sourdough starter, baking soda, and chocolate chips.
Stir in 260g the flour until just mixed. It will seem a little goopy. If itās Very goopy, add a little more flour, but bear in mind it will firm up in the fridge.
Refrigerate for at least 20 minutes (can go overnight if needed!)
When you're ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350°F, scoop dough into balls on the baking sheet, and bake for 15-25 minutes.
notes:
I use a standard ice cream scoop to grab fairly large portions of dough and roll into ball. I lightly flour my hands in order to make a smoother ball.
Recipe should make 16-24 cookies; if you have more than 24, your cookies are too small and idk what will happen. If you have less than 16, your cookies are too big, which isnāt a problem necessarily, but youāll need a longer cook time probably.
You can test if theyāre done by sticking a chopstick in the middle to see if it comes out clean.
My oven takes 23 minutes for most variations. Sometimes it takes 15 minutes. You'll just have to keep checking the first time.
Let them cool on the baking sheet for at least a few (~5-10) minutes after taking them out of the oven. They will get a little bit of a crisp on their crust if you do, and itās REALLY delicious. After that, you can put them on a cooling rack if you want.
100% suggest eating one while itās still warm (not burning but warm). They are at their best right after baking. They're okay for the next day or two, but they're kind of like fresh biscuits, and get kinda stale fast. I've rarely had a problem with them lasting that long.
The dough can be frozen! I would portion it before freezing.

South Asia is witnessing scorching heat waves, with temperatures in Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India regularly surpassingĀ 110 degrees Fahrenh
"Amid intense heat waves, the laborers remain exposed as climate policy is treated as a weather emergency rather than a persistent structural risk.ā
- Anjal Prakash, the former research director at the Bharti Institute of Public Policy
I'd also like to elevate this linked study from the article:
South Asia and Southeast Asia contributed more than half of the global death number attributed to high temperature. In 2021, South Asia recorded 209,537 deaths and Southeast Asia recorded 32,230 deaths attributed to high temperatures. In South Asia and Southeast Asia, Pakistan bore the highest number and rate of deaths attributed to high temperature. The population above 55 and below 5 years in South Asia and Southeast Asia experienced higher disease burden attributed to high temperature... Deaths attributed to high temperatures in South and Southeast Asia are projected to rise until 2045, with South Asia exceeding 400,000 and Southeast Asia approaching 100,000 deaths in 2045.
Googled something about quick hydration and it suggested big jug of water, couple tbsp pickle juice, dash of lime juice.
Its surprisingly tasty????
Pleased to report that after a day of this i am not longer craving caper brine and my mouth is not dry as usual. There's some good suggestions in the notes too that I want to try.
-ancient roman posca: water, red or white wine vinegar, honey, salt, herbs (coriander, mint, thyme)
-switchel: water, ginger, vinegar, sweetener, lemon, salt
-ayran: yogurt, water, salt, mint
-Agua pepino: water, cucumbers, lime, sugar, optional mint.
I have been reminded of:
-shrub: vinegar, sida water, elderberry (or other berry), sugar.
I have now been informed of
-sekanjabin: honey, vinegar, mint, water.
"Wow, I wonder why this post was popular this week."
-sees the reports of the heatwave in Europe-
"... ah."
