hey everyone, just curious:

For actually blocking (vs. filtering) and actually people (vs. bots), it's pretty much only 1. Obvious terf/racist/similar kind of bigot or 2. They knowingly, repeatedly post genAI stuff. (I didn't used to block the latter, but I've run out of patience for it, especially because they tend to post a lot in a row, and just filtering them will leave me with a string of "filtered post, click here to reveal" in a tracked tag.)

I block whoever the hell I don't wanna see directly in front of me for whatever reason. Bad take. Bigot. Blog that is all moodboards or flags or microlabel coining. Thing I don't like. Argued with me about dumb shit. Aggressively stupid DNI that tells me everything I needed to know about them. Constantly falling for and reposting blatantly botfarmed fundraisers. Dumb shit in a tag I wanna scroll. Annoying fucker I've already seen elsewhere. GenAI on purpose, not because they didn't realize, and they weren't having a discussion about some ethical point it raises. I only really filter by username if they get reblogged by people around me often enough that I can't get rid of them via the normal nuclear method.

So I do 3D modeling and printing as a hobby, and a few weeks ago I designed wheel guards meant to prevent office chairs from running over cables and clothes... or your pet's tail.

And since we don't face direct punishment for missing positive social cues like we do for negative ones, our coping skills and compensatory hypervigilance don't develop the same way. So we go through a world of never recognising positive signals, sometimes spotting negative signals, and knowing for sure there's more negative signals we're still missing, because those keep blowing up in our face.
