Knitpicks has recently been sending out yarn infested with carpet beetles. Apparently one of their warehouses has an active infestation.

They have shut the warehouse down for now, but if you have recent yarn from them in your stash in may be infested!

Suggested actions are to freeze your yarn for two weeks at 0F, or 72 hours of you can get your freezer colder.

You can also cook your yarn in the oven at 200F.

Sadly, not good news.

Given the life cycle of carpet beetles, and the fact that at least one person has confirmed the eggs hatched in their yarn only within the last few days, the eggs had to have been laid roughly two weeks ago. So the infestation is older than two weeks at least.

Original post is viewable through my profile. Apologies, since I’m on mobile, I couldn’t hyperlink. The TLDR: my doctor called me on Monday and informed me that their practice would no longer be providing treatment for gender affirming care as a result of a recent presidential Executive Order, even though the EO was for people under 19. Even though I’m 25.

Also, because it was asked a few times, this happened in Michigan, and I’ve been on HRT for 5+ years. It’s a practice that includes like 15+ physicians, and I think that the decision was made over my PCP’s head, given that she once told me that she literally moved states to be able to provide gender affirming care here.

First off, genuinely, thank you so much for all the replies and messages. I genuinely felt frozen after that phone call and didn’t know where to start, and you all really helped me get my feet off the ground.

A couple people mentioned contacting the ACLU, which, truthfully, I thought, “there’s no way that the ACLU will get back to me” but I sent a message anyway. They actually called me a few hours after my post and we talked about the Executive Orders and my rights. They offered to fax my provider a letter reminding them of my rights and some other legal terms. It’s crazy how a post on reddit resulted in my name being on the official ACLU letterhead.

Anyway, today my doctor’s physician assistant called me and shared that their practice is reversing their decision and they will continue to provide gender affirming care. I’m still keeping a bunch of the resources that y’all shared saved, including Planned Parenthood, Plume, and looking into a private endocrinologist.

This whole experience just reminded me how great this community is. I appreciate y’all <3"

You should contact Chase Strangio from the ACLU, I believe he is looking for reports of folks being denied their GAC due to these EOs. He's @chasestrangio on IG and Threads.

Putting aside the number of grants for research that are federally funded, practically any student who isn't from a wealthy family is using some kind of financial aid, and the government provides a significant chunk of financial aid.

THAT WOULD SHOW THOSE SNOWFLAKE COMMIE HEATHEN TRANSGENDER LIBS!!!

...except. Every Democratic state Attorney General in the nation sighed deeply, pinched the bridges of their noses, went "are you kidding me with this shit?" and sued the daylights out of the Trumpsters within like, 2 hours. The inaugural White House press conference was filled with White Supremacist Barbie Press Secretary (don't know her name don't care) trying to cover and/or spin nonsense while everyone, understandably, demanded to know if literally anything was going to still work or receive money. By the end of the day a judge had granted a one-week stay and an application for permanent injunction to make it essentially unenforceable was in the works. Today, the fascists are humiliatingly forced to tiptoe in, repeal it, and let that be that. Will they try again in some other format? Undoubtedly. But they got a spanking.

The point is: instant public backlash against fascist assclowns works, and they cannot do much or indeed any of what they try to pull off with wild overreach Just Be Dicks performative executive orders. There will be many more such cases, and they are counting on wearing us out with a constant barrage of nonsense over the next four years, but as I have said before, they are stupid, they are arrogant, and they are cruel for no other reason than to be cruel, but they are not smart. Which means that the worst effects can in fact be blunted, if we keep at it.

over the last 24 hours Tom Homan has flip-flopped on what exactly is going to happen this upcoming week in the US, but we know he has threatened a “big raid across the country” and Chicago seems to be the first target with leaked plans for tuesday, January 21st, 2025. if you are here and live in a sanctuary city, brace for ICE raids to begin this week. if you're able, you can request or print your own red cards (available in multiple languages) from the Immigrant Legal Resource Center and offer them to people within your community.
