I always want to show up and be Defender of Gon here because what he’s talking about is an actual practice I remember being taught by my dad’s side, which is Ainu

In Northern Japan, there’s a term called sansai, which refers to plants / herbs that are naturally growing around you while you live in a mountainous / rural area. in fact they specifically have to be foraged, many of them cant be easily cultivated.It’s really strongly tied to Ainu cooking traditions so I think it’s valuable that its roots are commented on

It’s a really thoughtful touch into Gon’s upbringing, especially as a child from a rural island area! It’s not meant to be a haha gon eat dirt gon not domesticated thing.

I don’t think we ought to normalize or justify bullying as a means to keep people from being annoying — a sentiment that in and of itself could make for a whole article’s worth of conversation — but I do think we should make a habit of politely but directly telling people “hey I didn’t like that”, “that wasn’t funny”, “you are mistaken”, and the like if it’s called for, and more importantly, you should be able to take a “that wasn’t funny” for instance without taking it personally, because protecting a polite harmony where no one can criticize each other, not even politely, is also really, really bad.

it's wild how lack of willingness to show large amounts of your naked body in public is conflated with a discomfort or insecurity about said body. like obviously if people are motivated by those things that's also fine but it's like. "if you like your body you should want to wear as small a swimsuit as possible; the only reason to get """modest""" swimwear is if you're insecure or have religious motivations" so it's weird feeling like nah my body is awesome I just don't want every rando at the municipal pool to have visual access to it? lol. how I feel about my body is unrelated to whether strangers have a right to view it

hey, i have therapy monday and i still haven't been paid back by my insurance that it owes me from my last appointment. if i can't cover this week's session, i'll probably have to postpone for at least a month - and i'm in the middle of some really big life changes right now that i don't think i can get through in one piece on my own.
