not a fully realized thought but I'm thinking about helena's consciousness blipping out at 9 am and returning at 5. and she doesn't get to spend any of those hours shadowing people at lumon or going to the cafeteria or sitting at her desk, or doing anything at all except for leaving her father's house and (perceptually) immediately going back again, every day, forever

it is of course easier to performatively ban children from social media than to do things like "actually challenge and regulate the abusive tactics tech companies use to extract people's data and money via social media" but if we did the second thing we wouldn't have any excuse to force people to use digital ID :(
