idk if i told the full story on here but i signed up for a research study where they were testing a new opioid, and it was supposed to be up to 5 injections increasing the dose to see what people could tolerate
i got the first dose and almost immediately fainted. they had to call in a whole medical team and it was a huge fucking deal
i was kicked out of the study and got a phone call later where they were supposed to tell me what the drug was, so i could avoid it in the future. they told me it was saline water. a placebo. i fainted from the placebo effect.
anyway, it's been a few months and i just got an email from the same department asking me to be a research participant in a new study: testing the effects of open-label placebo.
open label placebo is when the subjects and the researchers all know it's a placebo. they're testing the power of my mind. my power to imagine anything.
i like to think that they chose me for this specifically based on their past experience with me. "get the guy who fainted like a little bitch boy from saline water." anyway i just submitted all my info and i'm looking forward to getting started.

2. There does not seem to have been any sort of norm of public toilets in Canada charging money to use in the 20th century
3. I am neither Canadian nor a lawyer but I find it extremely hard to believe that there is any jurisdiction on earth where charging money to use a public toilet makes it legally constitute a hotel room and therefore OK to have sex in.

I know a lot of us Hellenist have problems being open with our religion, especially in the west. But even if I keep my practices to myself, I find it sweet in a way how I can connect to my friends with it, even if they don’t know.
Ive been pretty sick for a few days now, and my Christian friend told me she prayed for me to get better soon. She doesn’t know I’m a Hellenist, and I don’t plan on telling her, but when she’s sick I’ll pray for her too.
Even if it’s not the same, I feel connected to her in a way since we’re both so devoted to our own gods. I think that’s beautiful. :)
Praying for someone is a beautiful gesture. When my grandma got breast cancer, I was devastated because cancer made her a widow. A Christian I was friends with at the time said he’d pray for her when I told him. It was an incredibly difficult time since I’d also transferred schools that year and my mom was going through a second divorce. His prayers made a world of difference to me. He knew I’m a pagan and he still offered me the compassion I and my grandma so badly needed.
My grandma had brain surgery recently and I had to work while she was on the table. My favorite customer came in and we got to chatting a little. He’s a pastor and doesn’t know I’m pagan but he offered to pray for my grandma right there with me. It was really sweet of him and it brought me a lot of comfort that I needed in that moment :)

As someone who has been living with severe suicidal ideation my entire life I wanna tell you all something, you don’t have to stay alive for yourself. People will say it’s a bad idea to live for external things because they’re temporary, and it’s true living for yourself is ideal but if you’re not to that point yet that’s ok too.
I’ve lived for my dog for the past 4 years, before that I lived for my snakes, before that I lived for my cat. You can live for whatever needs you and whatever matters to you. Live for your best friend, live for your plants, live for your pets, live for your animal crossing town. Live for whatever keeps you alive and the day will come when you can live for yourself.
This is something everyone should see. Thank you for sharing this.
Transformers kept me alive. When the 2007 movie was announced I was going through an incredibly hard time emotionally. I saw the preview and every time I thought about killing myself I thought, “but then I won’t get to see this thing I’ve always wanted to see, good or not.” And it got me through.
I’m in a place where I live for myself now, but don’t toss away a life preserver just because other people think you should be able to swim on your own.
One Piece is what kept me alive for over half a year. Every time I thought about going through with it, I’d remember that I want to see how One Piece ends. I’m able to live for myself now but even still, if I’m having a rough time, I usually pull up a One Piece episode. I’ve had a lot of people poke fun at me for One Piece being one of my reasons to live, but there’s absolutely no shame and there’s nothing wrong with media being used as a reason to live.
