For this I play through all arpeggios in all keys. “Quilting” or “stitching” is a powerful #violinpractice🎻 #practiceroom #practiceroutine I use when passages seem intimidating at first glance. The concept is simple…start with small groups and stitch them together into larger and larger groups until the entire passage is easy. Dropping the second finger first creates the perfect 4th - then add the pinky to complete the third. Lift the pinky and listen for the perfect 4th again before lifting the 2nd finger. To make #fastplaying runs sound more brilliant, I make sure to vibrate the final top note. Sometimes my tendency is to be relieved the run is over and then stumble into the next part; however, brilliance and expression is lost this way. When playing #doublestops passages in thirds, it’s important to be clear about #major3rd vs minor thirds and how they feel differently in the hand. Although major thirds are wider intervals in sound, they will feel smaller or contracted in the hand on #violin or #viola Conversely, minor thirds will feel large in comparison to major thirds. Announcing the interval quality out loud is extremely helpful.
