make a comment focused on the characters in a fic. if they were compelling, human, realistic, in character, or so fucking hateable you wish you could go inside the story just to strangle them. how the relationships were explored, which ones you found most interesting, which ones you hope they'll explore more in depth in the future (if you're reading a wip), or what you think of their ocs (if there are any)
