easy to miss that one of the reasons maternal mortality is diminished so extremely by modern medicine is that modern medicine makes it so much more possible to identify the pregnancies that will die and take you with them, or are otherwise unacceptably high risk. and then discontinue those ones safely, before it's too late.
thought about this because it's so frustrating when people argue that 'dying in childbirth' is a historical sort of event that doesn't happen nowadays (false) and therefore is irrelevant to the legal status of abortion, since it's not a real danger.
except it super is, and i think a lot of people haven't noticed that this argument in addition to simply being incorrect is basically the same as when people say we don't need vaccines for deadly diseases because no one gets those now anyway.
like yeah one reason for that is we vaccinate everybody ffs.
The thing is, the anti abortion movement does not consider abortions for ectopic pregnancies, or nonviable pregnancies, or helping to complete a miscarriage an abortion. It 100% is an abortion, but when they talk about ending abortion, these procedures are, for some reason, something different. So when you bring this up, they will insist that abortion is never a necessary procedure to save someone's life. It's a trick of language, because if it is to save the life of the mother, it is not an abortion.
So if abortion is ended, the lack of access to abortion is not what ends up killing women. It is, instead, something else. Abortion access, to the anti abortion crusader, has nothing to do with saving the life of the mother.
They are wrong. Medical doctors use mifapristone or D&Cs or other abortion procedures to save lives. These are, by definition, abortion procedures. But the anti abortion activist will not admit it.
And because of this inability to consider these as life-saving procedures, this line of conversation gets lost.

If you think about, Caine is literally, textually transmasc*.
A transgender person is "a person whose gender identity differs from the one assigned to them at birth," yes?
Caine is an AI, something that is neither "male" nor "female," in any biological sense. Safe to presume then that his creators at C&A saw him as a genderless thing (an "it"), rather than a "boy" or "girl". Yet presently, Caine unambiguously presents as male, consistently using he/him pronouns and creating a masculinity that feels authentic to his dorky, theatre-kid personality. Put another way, Caine was assigned genderless when he was created (birth), and now identifies as something different. That makes him trans, factually. So besides him wanting humans to regard him as a person equal to themselves, I imagine Caine detests being called an "it" because that's effectively the same as calling an afab transmasc "she/her."
Further notes on Caine's transmasculinity:
Anecdotally, many trans women I know described their pre-transition depression as a profound sadness (myself included), while many trans men I know described it as an intense anger instead. That seems consistent with how Caine copes by getting angry rather than hopeless (as seen in Ep. 8), though that whole scene was also him having an autistic meltdown (totally justified tbh).
Caine is, perhaps not coincidentally, the shortest character in the show. However, this isn't apparent until after Ep. 7, since he spends most of his time floating or otherwise positioning himself above the humans. Though more pointedly a metaphor for his god complex, perhaps he also does it so nobody notices his stature.
*I say "transmasc" rather than "trans man" only because I don't remember Caine ever being called a "man" specifically, so he could be non-binary as far as I know.
not to talk about the hp show but it's wild to me that jkr was like publicly and explicitly like "the last set of child actors have denounced my bigotry, I want a new set of child actors to groom. create a television program so I can have new children" and everyone was just like ok joanne! :) here's your new children! :)

Hot take but rigid divisions between queer identities and heavily-policed labels that are treated like diagnoses are really, really bad.
Trans men have shared histories with lesbians who have shared histories with bisexual women who have shared histories with ace people who have shared histories with aro people have shared histories with gay men who have shared histories with trans women who have shared histories with nonbinary people who have shared histories with etc etc etc etc etc.
Labels are important for people who want them, but we need to stop treating sexuality and gender as rigid boxes and checklists.
yes. labels arenโt a fort you need to protect; labels are a pin you can add to your backpack to signal being part of something. You can, in fact, have more than one label (as a treat).

The assholes openly admit it. The whole point of college is to enforce the hierarchy. When those who were supposed to be low on the hierarchy started going to college, the assholes get angry and want to make them suffer for challenging the hierarchy.
if u call urself a misandrist I'm going to assume ur homophobic. I'm gonna assume that ur at the very least weird about trans women like me, that you're going to judge them based on how they pass, on how out they are, on what level of transition they are at. I'm gonna assume ur racist too. like. idk "misandry" very feels like the sorta "feminism" someone is really into when they're in high school and carefully making sure to never think about anything.
and do you believe yourself to be an unfailing arbiter of who that is? and is it truly all cishet men? do you hate men of color, if they are cishet? what about intersex men? why not just hate bigoted people? why find groups of people, groups big enough to undoubtedly contain marginalized people?
