Observe the truth a consider the possibility that the people who promised you national treatise have nothing in mind but their own lordship over your wealth. They care not for your wellbeing but only for their estate, and the measures to which they will go to ensure they remain in power so as to continue to oppress you are nearly endless, unbound by singular imagination or even human power. We are not at war with flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. I imagine this would cause a discussion spanning a significant amount of time as poor Nerva would be incredibly confused and appalled at the information. Topics of confusion would be subjects such as Death Metal, EDM, and karaoke, as well as some game soundtracks that have sutra-like chants in them or cathedral vocals like the Halo theme.

A: Human Joe, I must inquire of you about human music!

H: Uh, okay, shoot.

A: I was doing some research on the subject and came across some confusing information that I was hoping you could clarify. *plays music with echoing vocals and a sudden tempo increase with drums and various instruments* What is this? I assume it to be some sort of ritual chant from ancient humanity's tribes.

H: Well, uh... you're way off, Nerva. This is actually a part of a soundtrack that's a part of a video game from the early 2000's called Halo.

A: A video game? Like one of those things you play on your device?

H: Yes, only less advanced. That's from waaaay back in the day.

A: Fascinating! I didn't realize humans put so much effort into the music of wasteful entertainment!

H: *squints at the insult*

A: And what about this? *plays music by Obscura* It sounds like battle music from your race's war eras. I've seen some of the other crew listening to this while in the gym and it seems to get them... pumped.

H: Actually this is just called Death Metal. It's not really for listening and more for the general hype it gives you and helps you do things that might frustrate you or be difficult or exciting.

A: Death Metal? Did my translator just misinterpret the word "sword" or... I think you called it a "cannonball" back during the old wars?

H: No, no it's just what this kind of music is called. I mean, it could be used for battles... some captains probably use it for that... but it's not really something I listen to.

A: And this? *plays a song with some lyrics that transitions into a repetitive synthesized rhythm and beat and back and forth* It seems not to carry any meaning.

H: Then you've clearly never heard of Avicii or truly listened to his music. This man was special. He made music that touched people in ways few other men and women ever did. Wake Me Up, that's the name of this song. It's an EDM song, a song for parties and happy moments. It's a song made for the moment of joy in a life of trials.

A: I see... this is truly fascinating and wonderful! I very much enjoy this song!

😂 I'm sure the poor alien would do something along the lines of, "So now your oral bones are clean, correct?"

"Actually, they're only clean for me. They're healthy, but they still have a crapton of bacteria and whatnot that are necessary for food digestion."

"And this doesn't bother you at all?"

"No... it's pretty normal, actually."

"Fascinating! May I take a scan to verify this?"

"I mean, you can if you want, but you may not-" *gags as Nerva shoves a scanning device into Joe's mouth* "Newwa!! Ahh ah ooa oooia?"

"I am verifying your claim, Human Joe." *Scan conpletes and the device is removed*

*Joe gags and breathes heavily*

"SWEET DAUGHTER OF THE MAJESTIC NEBULON!!!!!"

"What Nerva, what???"

I know that this isn't the HASO stuff I normally write, but it feels so right to write this right now, so here it is.

April 26, 2019. It's warm out, 64° according to my car's thermometer. Okay, for anyone who's lived in Tennessee his whole life, it would be a nice brisk spring afternoon. However, I'm from Maine, and this is what a nice summer day usually feels like. It's so nice out, and I wish I could just roll onto a hammock and lie in the sun with a book. Unfortunately, or perhaps to my future fortune, we're moving here, so there's no hammock for now. I'll just sit in my car.

There's a breeze. I've rolled down the front windows of my car to allow it free passage through the interior. It's soothing breath caresses my skin and combs through my hair, easing the slight oppression of the sun to a comforting warmth. The breath of the wind carries with it a wonderful smell. Lilacs? Tulips? Lillies? I can't really tell, but it's nice.

It rained earlier, but not too much. The ground was wetted and the plants were doused very gently. Even so, it's kept the pollen down which lets me allow the smells of the world to freely waft into my nose. It's really nice.

I can hear birds. Robins, chikadees, a single woodpecker, perhaps a brood of finches... they sing their gentle, piercing melodies, and with the gentle music I have playing over the radio, Big Bug Shuffle, I can't help but imagine them being a group of friends enjoying this nice Friday afternoon. Friends... those are nice.

Farewell to Peter has just come on. Fitting, I suppose. I've lived in Maine for 11 years of my life. I'm 19 now, and I've missed the warm days of Illinois. I wouldn't want to go there now, but Tennessee sure is a wonderful new home. The university semester ended a week ago today, and I've said my farewells to my friends whom I hope to see in September when I return. Canada is cold, but the people are warm. Riley's not coming back to uni though. He can't afford it. A shame. He's a good guy. He's nice.

Another breeze ruffles the leaves. A cloud passes over the sun. A tree groans as it sways. And the birds, they still sing sweetly, returning to their furvent calls more wonderfully as the sun rejoins us on this terrestrial plain. The cars on this road in the neighborhood are sparce. Few manmade distractions. It's so nice.

I nod, as if my approval counts for something. Shebag, Shemor is playing.

Fair warning, this one is gross....

H: *sticks tiny ball of paper up one nostril*

A: *looks on in confusion*

H: *plugs other nostril with finger and blows* *paper flies out across the table* *laughs like an idiot*

A: *calmly, but clearly at his wit's end* Human Joe... why?

H: Hehe, it was fun. *grabs the same piece of paper and shoves it up nostril again*

A: You do realize this is both insanity and unsanitary, right?

H: Yep. *blows again*

A: Then why do it?

H: Nerva, what else am I going to do? *reaches for the ball again*

A: Oh, I don't know... WORK

H: Nah that's... bo... oh... *makes weird face*

A: Human Joe? What is wrong?

H: *smiles like an idiot* I have... t-to... sneeze.

A: Dear Nebulon, no...

H: Yes.... *sticks ball of paper up nose*

H: *plugs open nostril and sneezes* *paper ball flies across the room*

A: *looks on in horror*

H: WOOHOO!! NEW RECORD!!!

Hello everyone. I'd like to apologize for the inactivity I've displayed. Here in University land, things have been pretty busy, and I've been busting my butt just trying to keep up with the work. At any rate, I have returned.

I hope you enjoy this! Also, feel free to send me your thoughts and ideas. I would be overjoyed to see them!

Pleasant cycles, everyone. Today, human Joe is... preoccupied with other matters, so his ordinarily joyful background banter will not be present, this time. I know some of you enjoy that, so I apologize for his absense.

Moving on the the subject at hand. Science. It is one of the constants that binds all races across the great Nebulon. From the Krogoc's study of plasma to the Natari and their studies of all species' biologies. Even the humans have their studies, ranging from experemental interstellar travel methods (some of which are absurd) all the way down to micromechanical medicine.

However, the sciences which I have found humans to excel at are not so much the sciences of how to bend the universe to their will, even though they do that anyway, but more their sciences of learning to understand.

Uh... let me explain. Humans are notoriously curious, dangerously so, most times. They viciously seek after knowledge, sometimes just for the sake of having it! Much of the knowledge they acquire goes unused! But they still crave it, they want to know the answers to absolutely EVERYTHING, even if they forget it moments later!

In fact, they crave knowledge so much, that they have come up with ways to study things to find answers to questions we didn't even consider could be posed!

They don't just want to know who, or what, or where, or when, or how; they want to know the answer to the question no other race has ever considered asking: why? The humans want to know WHY things happen, why it worked out that way or this way, why you would do that, what is it about someone thay drove them to make that decision. Why? Why? Why?

They don't simply discover the end result and base all conclusions on consistent findings. They actively seek out why, not just in the physics of the universe, or the mathematics of existence. They want to know the ins and outs of societies. Of the individual mind. Of the very SOUL....

Humans ask why the warlords of the past conquered who they conquered, oppressed who the oppressed, hated who they hated; they ask why entire communities decided on this topic, or that matter; they ask why they all did this from so many angles, and they STUDY... EVERY... [redacted]... DETAIL OF EVERY LITTLE [redacted] THING.

And the best part is... they get their answers.

The call it Sociology. They call it Psychology. The social sciences.

They studied why the Krogoc became a warrior race. We, being the rest of Nebulon, assumed it was because of their planet and their heritage and culture. We didn't look into it any further. But those [redacted] humans... oh, they cracked the millenia old question.

They traced their historical records, took uncoherent data from those of questionable knowledge and applied it to a partial framework, dug in places no other race thought to dig, and they found the answer.

I won't bore you with the details, but suffice it to say that the entire race is they way they are not because of a successful ideology or a mythos that drives them to war. It was because a little Krogoc infant was born in an abusive home. An entire civilization, an entire race, fights because an inebriated male mated with a female, who had a son who grew up fatherless, who grew to hate women, who mated with one for the sake of procreation, and had a child who was brought up on the idea that it was only proper to conquer everything....

This realization was dubbed a herecy in the Krogoc courts, but a solid 34% of Krogoc adopted this discovery and went on to become scientists instead of warriors.

Now there is a field dedicated to the study of artificial wormholes, all because a small group of humans wanted to know the true reason behind why an entire race loved to fight.

Humans.... I do not think they can comprehend the impact they have made on the universe.

Who knows? Maybe they should be stopped? At least, most things will be predictable again. But what will we miss out on? Why do it?

Dear Nebulon... I'm beginning to sound like them....

An interesting idea. Maybe I'll introduce a solution to his obsessive chewing habit by making it a recurring problem that annoys Nerva. My Grandpa used to chew on toothpicks, a habit he developed after he got a cavity and one he kept even after it was filled. It replaced his urge to carry a bag of nuts with him everywhere from before he had the cavity. Maybe I'll introduce the solution that way.
