What is your opinion on patcap and capthorne? I never liked either of them much, but this one capthorne fic is rapidly changing my mind after being a caphavers stan for years that I don't know what to doooooo
I'm not rlly sure how to tag this so I'm just not going to tag it at all since I don't like putting ship discussions like this in main tags, but I'm neutral on them, I just never really clicked with either and just can't get behind them ship wise, it's just not really my thing
I'm glad you found a fix you like! Multi shipping is amazing, trust me

Since you asked for questions... do you have any headcanons on havers and cap? How do you think their domestic life would be if it was legal and they got married and lived together?
Love love LOVE THIS!
I think their domestic life would be quite quiet, but in a peaceful sort of way. They'd have a house by the coast, not too far away from any civilization, but tucked away amongst the banks near the sea enough that no one could see them or what they were doing
The Captain would have his routine, and Havers would honour that, and over time they would both create a routine together that they stuck to. The captain would spend time reading the paper in the morning, whereas Havers would prefer the radio, so they'd do that separately, but then eat breakfast together, maybe in the garden if it was warm enough
Their wedding would be very small and tight-knit. Only the family and friends that truly mattered would be attending, and Cap wouldn't want to make too much of a fuss about it all, so it would never be anything flashy but a bit more minimalist
Their house would be cosy, Havers would smile affectionately every time the Captain brought home ANOTHER replica of a tank or plane or ship, whilst also glad that aside from the exception of replicas, he will never have to set eyes on a war machine again
Cap would help Havers through the rough days, the days where he would lurch from sleep and stress vomit, and the days where he struggled to see from his right eye or when his face seemed to hurt worse than others, and both would be patient with each other. Havers wouldn't talk much about his time fighting, and the Captain wouldn't pry, they take care of eachother
They wouldn't really go to church, I don't see them as being particularly religious, Havers especially given what he'd been through, so instead they would go for walks on the beach or around the town whilst it's quiet and bask in the peace of it all
The captain's snoring would help Havers sleep, acting as a sort of anchor to remind him of where he is and of his own safety. James was beside him, he was safe
Havers is the handyman of the household. The over broke once and he was torso-deep in there fixing it, emerging an hour later covered in oven grime in his undershirt, which made the captain realise somethings. Havers also fixed dodgy door hinges, windows, the garden bench, and once built a shelf to go in the study they both used
I don't know what jobs they would both do after leaving the Army. I hc Havers as an artist, so I can see him selling paintings by the coast for a living and offering art lessons, and I can also maybe see the Captain working as an archivist or as a history teacher
what do you think havers life was like after the captain died
I think he lived his life with a piece of him missing. He would have gone home to his parents and cried into his pillow and lay in bed at night just thinking and wishing it was different. I think that after a while he could live with it, but he would always have this sort of empty space where his relationship with the captain SHOULD have been. The silent, bored moments would seem so much more empty when he had nothing else to think about.
In 1967 when homosexuality was made legal for men, he would have travelled to the captain's grave with a bouquet of flowers, a card and the pipe he managed to obtain from Cap's belongings and knelt down with knees that crunched just as James's did and smoked with the man who should have been his husband. He would have laid down the flowers and the card open on the message 'thinking of you on this day, James. I'm so sorry you never lived to see this, or see the day where we could have been us. I still love you more than anything in the world. -Anthony'
He would have retired, then picked up another job, because sitting alone with nothing to do would be too painful, maybe speak about his experience with love to queer communities sometimes, and when his time finally came he would be ready to see James again.
I think 12 yo me manifested the creepypastas coming to life a little too hard because WHAT is outside my cabin scratching at my window? Don't even play istg
caphavers ask what do you think havers was like. i feel like theres so little specific info about him that there can be so many interpretations
OOOOO I LOVE THIS QUESTION!!!
Ok, so we don't really see much Havers in the show (sadly) so I'm going to start this off with what we DO see of him and then what is purely product of me and my moot rambling late night in our DMs
Havers is well-liked and is respected among the other soldiers, he's taken seriously by the soldiers posted at button house and he shuts down any laughter towards the captain immediately. PSC said in an interview that he wouldn't tolerate any back talking either and would shut that down too, so I view Havers as quite responsible and definitely a contrast to the Captain in that he very much FITS the role he's in.
He's a very warm individual from what we see with him, and I really do just believe that he's the kind of person who lights up whatever room he walks into. He certainly lit up the Captain's office when he stepped in and definitely lightened his mood.
He's very good at concealing emotions but he definitely has tells that he can't control. I think he's very repressed, more so than the captain in that he is better at hiding it, but he is definitely aware of his own feelings. His tells are things like his eyebrow twitching (his RIGHT eyebrow if I'm going to be specific) in Carpe Diem when the captain is dying, the way he hesitates when telling the captain he's put in for a transfer, the way his face drops when the Captain says he'll miss him, and the way he seems to brighten when the captain says he was just thinking about him. He's a VERY subtle man on the outside (now onto my hcs lol)
------
If you want to piss someone off for fun, do not choose Anthony P. Havers. He can be a very patient man, he's trained himself to be just so, but when his patience runs out he loses it. Someone under his command does something stupid that almost gets several people killed? The whole unit will be able to hear it, and no one will do that shit again because he NEVER shouts. He is able to stay calm when it comes to the captain for his unit, but his friend in the unit (more on this later) will be hearing all about this later. This IS based on the scene of the Captain dying, where he sounds as if he is absolutely fuming that everyone is just standing there whilst the Captain is in an obvious medical emergency, but his anger issues are something very near and dear to my heart as someone who is the same
He is very talented artist, mainly focussing on pencil sketches and pen work. His best drawings are of people and animals, he can't draw landscapes for the life of him, and he loves drawing the captain covertly. When he goes to the front, he takes a small photo of the captain with him, one from the personel files that he definitely shouldn't have taken, and he sketches him at various different angles whenever he has any free time, and it helps to keep him sane
He is somewhat of a gossip. This was definitely cultivated somewhat by his mother and father, who would gossip with he and his sister a bit about the people who would bully Havers and their parents. Stuff like "Oh I wouldn't worry, Anthony. It's not as if his father has more than half a brain either. Well, their entire family can't even so much as count up the change they owe when they come in to the grocers, and I certainly don't see their children getting scholarships like you do, so pay them no mind, no mind at all." "Eye, there's a running joke at the factory. If you want something done properly, do it yourself. If you want a laugh, ask Ernest to do it."
But Havers didn't exactly feel comfortable talking to the other men during the war, careless talk costs lives and he had no friends he really felt comfortable around. That was until he got to know Sgt. Elizabeth 'Fritzie' King about a week into his posting to button house. The two of them just clicked. She was the highest ranking after Second lieutenant (I usually use Cartwright as a placeholder) and the two of them spent time gossiping over lunch in one of the rooms just off the kitchen hallway (button house FM room). Fritzie is, as her name suggests, German on her mother's side and English on her Father's side. The two had met in Germany just before the great war, had been married a few months later, then fritzie's father had gone to fight for England, and Fritzie came shortly after the war started, making her around 24-25, quite young for a sergeant but she is quite skilled at what she does and is in fact a career soldier like her father. Fritzie has a partner called Elsie who lives in Scotland, and she immediately sniffed out the romantic tension between the Captain and Havers and provided a safe space for Havers to speak about his feelings as letters were not guaranteed to be safe at this time.
Havers' favourite cake is Carrot cake, he enjoys dense, flavour rich foods unlike the captain who prefers a good and simple Victoria sponge.
Havers' alcoholic drink of choice is a good home-brewed cider. He can handle a drink pretty well since he's been drinking for a while. His mother makes her own from the apple tree in the back garden, and he often helps.
He's more of a mummy's boy, his father was often working in the factory and was tired by the time he got home whereas his mother worked in a green grocers and was home in time to spend time with him. Not to say he didn't love his father, but he spent time with his mother more often so he went to her first with his problems.
His family is very supportive of his homosexuality, if anything they worry he won't feel fulfilled in life because of how others will treat him, but they've never been hesitant to remind him that he is their son and that will not change. His sister makes the 1930s-40s equivalent of "no bitches?" Jokes at him, and it just becomes this sort of family joke
He's a great uncle to his nephew and niece William and Katherine! He can't and won't have kids of his own but he's absolutely the best uncle ever to them. He named Operation William after William (I wanted to make him a little bit of a sap) and he just adores drawing with the two of them. William is 13 by the end of the war and Katherine is 9. At the start of his posting to button house, Havers is 35 and at the end of the war he is 40, yet still maintains a bit of his babyface
Havers was more adventurous with his food, having stuff like ox tongue and sometimes fish in sandwiches alongside maybe some cheese and some pickle or chutney (these food head cannons are a result of many late night chats with @kit36sblog , thank you moot for helping to make this Cap-havers into a Cap-home)
He was actually quite confident with how he approached cap, often being happy to hold longer conversations and scootch a bit closer when they were alone. A slight hand touch whilst drinking some whiskey in the office, offering a puff of his own cigarette, standing slightly closer when drinking tea in the kitchen... Only for Cartwright to KEEP COCKBLOCKING HIM.
@kit36sblog and I have a nickname for Cartwright; Cartwright the Cockblock, because we keep seeing him randomly showing up JUST as something was about to maybe happen (unlikely lol) every SINGLE TIME. Drinking in the office? He knocks on the door because he was working late and needs something checked. Smoke break? He comes and smokes with them. Tea in the kitchen? He shows up, makes his own cup and then shuffles between the two of them like "ah, 'scuse me sirs..." To get the sugar, then shuffles back, before doing it again to get a biscuit and it drives Havers INSANE. Getting to the point where he'll be speaking with the captain about cricket after the match and Havers will just hold up a hand, count down from three, and as if on cue Cartwright will appear to interrupt OUT OF NOWHERE. It is a gift that Cartwright possesses, which is made even funnier in the hypothetical AU where Cartwright is Havers' brother in-law. He gets told that he's doing it but he keeps accidentally doing it STILL
Capvers chilling in the kitchen, having a morning talk before everyone else is up, Havers leaning in to kiss the Captain's cheek... Then they hear a whispered "oh shit!" From the doorway accompanied by someone scrambling back.
"No. Dont walk away. Just come in now, John. You've ruined it."
"... Sorry Anthony...."
Anyway I hope this answered your question? I dont really think that much about how I write him tbh these are just the little details I like to imagine about him lmao
Ive got an idea about what he has in his sandwhiches but no clue of when his birthday is

What do you think Havers and cap love most about each other?
Hii! Thank you for the ask!
I think that Havers loves the Captain's softness and his little quirks the most. I read somewhere in an interview with PSC that it's something that Havers admires about him, and I want to elaborate on that. There isn't one little thing that Havers loves the most about the Captain, it's several little things combined. The little toe bounces, the way he stammers slightly when he's flustered, his obsession over manoeuvres and military technology, it all comes together to create this character profile of the Captain that Havers just adores. Topped off by the fact that the captain is really soft and kind under the tough shell he tries to put on (and that Havers can pry off with just his presence), I think it just all draws Havers in
As for the Captain, I think he finds Havers' presence particularly calming, he has this aura around him and such a way with words that both ease his anxiety and allow him to relax, as we see in their first scene together. Havers says "I don't think they'll be here quite yet, sir." And it does something to calm and reason with the Captain, and I think that the he just really adores Havers' presence in general. That and Havers' eyes, I think he could just get lost in those eyes (I mean, who WOULDN'T get lost in PSC's eyes? They're gorgeous)
