Holmesian Bastard

Good morning my dear

To start with the most obvious reason - Watson is, as Sherlock puts it, a conductor of light. He presents Sherlock Holmes to the world like an artist would a painting - if Watson was an illusrator he'd put a picture of Sherlock on every page of his books - and he basically already does in his descriptions.

Watson is also just very moon coded in general - his colours feel like a more warmish grey, and he has that relaxed old man vibe to him from time to time. Watsons character feels tied to how he cares for people and interacts with them, and I personally believe that to be a very moon-like quality.

Sherlock is also very sun coded - he shines brightly, and everyone notices him, but people can't truly see him with their bare eyes, he's misunderstood by many and can seem quite jarring. Sherlock accels in many areas, and people offen put him in a higher possision of importance compared to the moon. (But just like the moon, Watson is never fully forgotten in day-to-day conversation).

Sherlock cannot help but be the centre of attention due to his brightness.

People make the mistake of thinking sun = whoever is more bubbly and confident and moon = the shy, slightly grumpy one. And as much as I would ague this isn't always the case, I would like to mention that by that standard Sherlock still feels more sun-like and Watson still feels more moon-like.

People often forget that Sherlock isn't just a thinking mechine, he can be cheeky, theatrical, and Watson can often doubt his abilities and hide himself behind Sherlock's genius.

By popular request ;D Holmes being neurodivergent was something I thought about a lot while writing the game (channelling my own experiences a lot of the time!) and I know that our director discussed it with the actors, too. This is definitely not all the scenes or even the most prominent examples, but they're the ones that felt non-spoilery!

We all know that he took it upon himself to create a backstory for Holmes when the Granada TV show didn't offer one (and that was awesome of him), but did you know that he could sing??? He even did some of musical theatre in the beginning of his career. In addition to that, did you know he was in a lot of Shakespeare plays???? And also, he got offered the role of 007, but he declined it because he thought it wouldn't be good for his career???

Option one: The murder victim was innocent while the killer was an abusive bastard, see Speckled Band. Conclusion, arrest and have the killer charged (Or in the case of Speckled Band, indirectly murder him yourself then shrug and go home)

the Victorians LIKED reading about women who won out over shitty men in their lives, even when that plotline reaffirmed a woman’s power and agency or put an active sexist in his place (ie Irene Adler besting Holmes)

I think Sherlock is far too often represented as not caring about Watson. Everyone assumes that since Holmes is a genius and gets caught up in cases that he must always ignore Watson. That Watson must be treated like dirt.

But for all his flightyness, Holmes really is considerate when it comes to Watson. In the hound of the baskervilles, Watson gets upset at Holmes because he thinks all his reports have gone to waste when he discovers Holmes has been in town the whole time. But no, Holmes had all those reports sent back to baskerville for him to read, even though he didn't necessarily need them.

It is a strongly emotional scene for the story and has remained my favourite over the years due to Holmes quickly jumping to praise Watson's observations.

They are a team!! Always have been. Holmes wouldn't take just anyone with him.
