They freed a whole generation of people who were taught to paint detail and realism and exact representation of reality — people who largely gave up this kind of thing because it got tedious.

I watched the joy of family members as they rediscovered art as a messy fun spontaneous half hour activity.

I’ve always believed that in order to be efficient, activism should be a choice. When I participate, I don’t tell everyone about it or post about it or tell people what they should and shouldn’t do and somehow people in my life still cannot stand it when I’m doing something they’re not in terms of activism.

I’ve been boycotting Starbucks because as someone who is broke and doesn’t have a lot of time on my hands, mindfully avoiding businesses that are funding Israel is one of the few ways ways I can support Palestine. My friend asked if I wanted to go to Starbucks and I just said no. She immediately asked, “For what? Like the boycott?” And since she asked directly, I answered honestly and said yes. She got really snotty about it and then shut the conversation down.

Like OP mentioned, I avoid SHEIN and other fast fashion as much as possible. I try to buy clothing only when I need it and I try to repair my clothing when it wears down instead of just getting rid of it. Again, it’s just something I do. Never something I’ve told everyone else in my life they should do. My friend will go on long rants about how we can’t really avoid fast fashion and it’s all the same so she’s not going to feel bad for shopping brands like SHEIN and target. And, I kid you not, I never bring this shit up. She brings it up every time and then gets so upset and goes off on these longs rants about it without me saying anything.

When you’re a grown up, you need to learn how to handle your own feelings of shame instead of lashing out at people around you who are simply trying to keep their fellow humans in mind. I don’t have the time or capacity to carry your little feelings of embarrassment and anger when you’re confronted with someone who does, in fact, care that the brands you’re buying from are sending money to bomb little kids. That is your own burden to carry, not mine.
