Alien: Whatcha doing?

Human: Uhh *hunched over tablet*, just drawing something, ya know?

Alien: Work eh? Poor you. Hope you can finish that fast before the weekend?

Human: Huh? What do you mean?

Alien: ...is that not for your job?

Human: I'm no artist. I'm an accountant. I don't-

Alien: ...you're an accountant...but you're drawing?

Human: For fun, I just have free time.

Alien: *astounded* You're literal job is accounting and you're....doing art....for fun!?

Human: W-why would I not-

Alien: *Calls out to friend* do you see this person!? They're job is freaking accounting! Working with fun fun numbers and they're sitting here coloring like they enjoy it! "Free time", they say.

Human: W-what-

Alien 2: You're...drawing.

Human: Y-ye- I-I mean, what's your guys' jobs?

Alien: I paint murals and this person creates sculptures.

Human: What!? Dream jobs right there!

Aliens: What!?

Alien 2: You're an accountant! You get to work with numbers all the time and you're envious of US??

Human: Do your kind not like-

Alien: It is so tiring. Our schools enforce the arts on us, we are pressured by parents that art is the only way for the future and society- society calls us dreamers if we even mention math or science.

Human: ...that's pretty much us but with science and math...

Aliens: ...

Human: ...

Aliens: ....

These are some common mental compulsions:

Compulsive prayer: While prayer is important to many people’s faith, it can also become compulsive. They may pray over and over again, try to pray “perfectly,” or restart a prayer if they get distracted. [Note: I have also seen people do this with secular things related to values they hold dear which are structured similarly to prayers in some manner]

Counting: You might count anything in order to feel “just right” or drown out an obsession—steps, ceiling tiles, beats in a song—either out loud or in your head.

Emotional checking: Compulsive checking doesn’t have to be physical. Emotional checking involves analyzing your emotions to make sure you’re having the “right” feelings.

Memory hoarding: You might try to hang on to memories, thoughts, and experiences with perfect accuracy because you feel they’ll be crucial in the future.

Mental reviewing: This could involve replaying a conversation you just had over and over again, or compulsively reviewing an event that happened years ago.

Rumination: Often referred to as “overthinking,” rumination involves compulsively analyzing or trying to solve a perceived problem. It can be especially tough to identify, and can last for weeks at a time.

Self-reassurance: Reassurance doesn’t always have to come from the outside. You might try to relieve your distress by reassuring yourself that your fears aren’t true, rather than asking others.

Making fun of a group of people that are privileged over you is one thing, but wishing non-cartoonish violence and death on them ("they should fall off a cliff" vs. "they should be wiped out"), wishing sexual violence on them, dehumanising them, claiming that they're less capable of creating art or living meaningful lives, saying that their relationships are inherently shallow and fake - these things are fucked up. I understand venting and saying extreme things when in pain, but when you find yourself regularly posting about wanting certain people tortured and killed, you need to examine that.

Friendly reminder to be nice to Mormon missionaries. Don't give them any contact information, and don't accept Book of Mormons from them, but if they show up at your door maybe offer them a glass of water and some food. They've received propaganda to be out there their entire lives, and they're stuck in the cult within a cult of Mormonisim while out there. Like the rules they have to follow? INSANE. They have to get up at six thirty EVERY DAY and that's a mild rule. Most of them are starving most of the day too.

It is changing in recent times (cults are adaptive), but the lack of communication is considered 'traditional'. Incredibly messed up way to think, I know, but constant indoctrination does something (derogitory) to your brain. They can send emails and letters but god forbid if they're texting their moms!

The reason this is done (for anyone out of the know) is isolation. It's to isolate these young adults and increase the missionaries devotion to the Church. Because that's all they're thinking about for 12 hours a day, they come up with ways to rationalize it. The only people they can ask any questions to are in the same boat.

There is so much pressure too. Everyone will tell you about their mission and its expected that once you graduate, you'll be going on a mission. There's literally classes you take in highschool that 'teach you more about the church' or... Rather, that indoctrinate you further.

(This is legal cause the Church has been around longer than the state has been and kinda owns the politicians but we don't talk about that.)
