Any advice on how to overcome that?

write it for yourself and your own enjoyment. you’ll always feel like it’s never enough if you write for strangers’ approval, and also it goes from a hobby you do because of the love and passion you have for your characters and stories to something that you have to chase after — and you just place your own passion and happiness into the hands of strangers. and yeah it will always be exhausting.

I don’t know how long you’ve been here, but if you’ve been following me long enough, you may have heard that I used to write for a very small fandom where the majority of the works were from me and, because barely anybody has heard about the source material, almost nobody read what I wrote. but that didn’t affect me or the love I had for writing. because I wrote it for me.

I write fics about squid game now, so it’s not really a small fandom anymore. but I only changed fandom because my hyperfixation shifted from my old fandom to squid game, not because of the lack of audiences I experienced while writing for my previous fandom. I didn’t regret anything and I’m glad I got to write what I wrote, doesn’t matter if it’s popular or not.
