A problem with the whole Important Queer Media⢠discourse is that a lot of folks don't seem to be able to parse "Important" as anything other than a moral judgment, and it's really not. Art is a dialogue. All works are in conversation with other works, and sometimes, works that have merit are deeply in conversation with works that suck. Acting like we can't talk about the latter at all is essentially demanding that we imagine an alternative universe in which those works weren't part of the conversation, yet somehow we ended up in the same place â and while alt-history may be a fun intellectual exercise, it's not a great critical lens.
pretty incredible that google went from this bountiful source of information to just trotting out blatant factual inaccuracies every time you try to use it. i do not use she/her pronouns. GREAT JOB AI
its funny because when i first posted about my non-dysphoric trans way i was VERY hesitant because its complex and nuanced and i was worried people would take it out of context and flatten it into something incorrect. turns out the people were fine. MACHINES on the other hand cant figure it out
to explain again and help the broken AI machine and then i wont have to talk about it anymore: my preferred pronouns are he/him. my real pronouns are she/her. i prefer to use the wrong pronouns
the reason i do this is because i am not dysphoric and dont need every conversation i have to revolve around gender and my spiritual beliefs about gender. i love my male body even if it does not match my soul. it is a VERY COOL SECOND PLACE and i am pumped as heck on it
if we are talkin just use he/him. ASSUME AWAY. just dont put it on any technical documents or labelers because it is technically incorrect. dont put anything on those. i had a book delayed two weeks because of this once. ANYWAY hopefully the computer will have an easier time with this

one of the things that makes autism a disability (and why some of us choose to label it as such rather than an âalternate neurotypeâ) is the stress.Â
part of autism is just being incredibly stressed. overstimulation? stress. holding a conversation? stress. something happening to our schedule? stress. people talk about how often autism is recognized and diagnosed via our stress responses (like meltdowns) because it is just so common to see autistic people stressed because of lack of accommodations to how our brains work.
and this matters because stress kills. stress causes a lot of health issues, or it can trigger pre-existing ones by making certain chronic conditions flare up. i once had a psychiatrist very unhelpfully tell me i âjust need to manage my stressâ when the stress i was describing was things i could not avoid in neurotypical society and canât âjust get overâ. i can do âself careâ all i like but i cannot at the very base level change the way my brain inputs information and reacts accordingly.
i only learned this year that loud noises arenât physically painful for other people. i have lived 34 years in a world in which my friends and family regularly physically hurt me at random just by shouting, and i thought everyone else just thought i was kind of a wimp for not dealing with the pain as well as they did.
like. loud noises physically hurt. itâs like a static shock from my ears to my spine that doesnât stop until the volume goes back down. i thought we all agreed that âthatâs too loud!â and covering our ears meant âouch!â. turns out iâve been dealing with a stressor almost no one else has, my whole life, alone.
autistic people have to keep functioning through debilitating levels of stress that no one else in their life acknowledges or helps them with. itâs no wonder that their most visible âtellsâ are breakdowns.Â
âThe LEGO Movie was my favorite movie of 2014, but it strikes me that the main character was male, because I feel like in our current culture, he HAD to be. The whole point of Emmett is that heâs the most boring average person in the world. Itâs impossible to imagine a female character playing that role, because according to our pop culture, if sheâs female sheâs already SOMEthing, because sheâs not male. The baseline is male. The average person is male. You can see this all over but itâs weirdly prevalent in childrenâs entertainment. Why are almost all of the muppets dudes, except for Miss Piggy, whoâs a parody of femininity? Why do all of the Despicable Me minions, genderless blobs, have boy names? I love the story (which I read on Wikipedia) that when the director of The Brave Little Toaster cast a woman to play the toaster, one of the guys on the crew was so mad he stormed out of the room. Because he thought the toaster was a man. A TOASTER. The character is a toaster. I try to think about that when writing new charactersâ is there anything inherently gendered about what this character is doing? Or is it a toaster?â
â Bojack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg commenting on how weird gendered defaults in entertainment are, and why we should think twice about them. Excerpted from this longer original post. (via 360degreesasthecrowflies)
Thatâs the same guy what the actual fuck.
Whoa what the fuck.

Pokemon has never had a generation where all three starter pokemon are mammals. Two generations- gens 1 and 3- have had zero mammals, and from gens 5-8 there've been two mammals to pick from, but none have had three mammals. I think this is an important part of the franchise's brand.
Back when gen 8 got leaked someone pointed out that you can generally tell a real GameFreak Pokedex from a fakemon dex by the amount of "ugly" pokemon and the number of invertebrates and inanimate objects, and I think there's a similar thing going on here- Pokemon genuinely makes an effort to make its monsters varied.
The last 15ish years have seen so much ink spilled on the Vanillish line, on gen 1 designs, etc etc, but I think it bears repeating how easy it is for a Mons game to stick to charismatic animals like mammals and birds and dinosaurs and pets. And pokemon does have that (we have, what, six cat lines? more if you count regional meowths) but it also makes sure to add, like. A crinoid. A bagworm. A bell. Creepy humanoid mushrooms, a sand castle, a big iceberg.
Something would be lost if every single pokemon was as cool as Haxorus or as cute as Snom or as furrybait as Goodra. Pokemon succeeds because it lets you be best friends with shit that's just weird.
"ohhh op is telling on herself for calling goodra furrybait" idk maybe you're telling on yourself for how you have no furry friends. do better.
