Right, call Kim and Jean. Tell him what you’ve found. If you can’t come up with a better plan, you’ll just have to try to gather some intel the old fashioned way.

You have a knit cardigan being used as a seat cushion. Too warm for the weather, but better than the RCM halogen marks of your patrol cloak. None of your crumpled woolen hats will cover your face, so you snag a wide brimmed hat off of McLaine’s desk.

RHETORIC – It doesn’t look good on him anyway.

SAVOIR FAIRE – Make sure you pull the hat down low. The bruising is quite noticeable.

Stuffing your arms into the sleeves, you head for the phone that is unfortunately in use. You glare at the patrol officer using the phone, tapping a foot impatiently.

LOGIC – Sounds like he is doing his job, getting an address for a witness.

You cross your arms, as you lean back slightly, so that he can have a little room to finish his conversation. The officer keeps his eyes on you as he finishes his call. As soon as he sets the handset down, you grab it. You try Kim’s number first. No answer.

SUGGESTION – Perhaps he is already heading back to meet you.

“Jean,” the only response is a grunt. “Is Kim there?”

“What? No. Why would he be here?”

“He’s not answering at his apartment.” This does not seem to enlighten Jean the way it does you. “I had an idea.”

“A brilliant one, I assume?” The sarcasm seems to drip down the phone line, lubricating the signal so the tone comes through crisp and clear.
