I’m a place that seems miserable and lonely but if you pull back the curtain you see little floating lights in the dark. The place that isn’t so lonely, in the simplest way I can put it without it being a full poem

They grew up being the only unempowered in a family of empowered people. Their sister, their parents, who knows who else in their family having a wide variety of magics, it has to hurt like a motherfucker.

Not to get personal, but I can relate. I just don't have something that makes me fit in with my family, but I still don't know what it is.

They have to feel so isolated in a group of people that they're related to and should feel safe and comfortable with.

Their sister was probably the only one that wasn't ever judgemental about it, that's why the two of them spent so much time together.

And after Quinn's attack, Dreamer blamed themself for it. If that wasn't something that could awaken their magic, what if that was it? What if they're meant to be the outsider?

Then the canon timeline of the Project, their magic awakening without them even knowing about it. I can understand why it feels like they were some imposter or something. They didn't even realize they had their magic, they didn't even feel their core. They blamed themself again. (Even though it was Marcus' fault, technically, with him altering their mind).

And now having their magic? They're thinking why did it have to be Dreamwalker magic, that wouldn't be helpful to protect them (their sister, is what they really mean). They're calling it the most useless kind of magic, insulting themself, breaking themself down. Saying that there had to be something wrong with them to end up with this specific kind of magic...

So they're learning every other kind of magic to prove that they should belong in their family, that they're not some outsider. To them, it doesn't matter if it costs them, they just want to prove that dammit, they deserve to belong.

Even if they'll never think they will, they keep trying.

They just have to keep pushing.

Keep learning.

Whatever it takes.

They have to prove that they're worth anyone's time and effort.
