I'm not alone in thinking that nat 1s, just existing as they are RAW, without crit fumbles, is still just needless dick-kicking for martials, right? They're already dependent on some amount of RNG for most every action. Removing nat 1s would only boost martials at the high levels, where they need the boost the most, or against lots of mooks, where they also need the boost.

I don't think it makes an appreciable difference, honestly. Non-casters are bad against mooks because of action economy and limited AoE options, they're bad at high levels because of dead levels and poor scaling, and they're boring to play because they don't have exciting or impactful abilities. None of that changes if you remove nat 1s as an automatic failure on attack rolls. And I think you do want the potential for automatic success/failure to exist because it provides dramatic moments and a potential means for an underdog to swing a fight in an unexpected way—you don't really want a combat to feel like it's unwinnable for either side.
