I have always been partial to the idea that the vast majority of open world games fail to justify their size and would benefit from being smaller. But last night I booted up GTA Vice City (which for most intents and purposes is *exactly* the kind of small-ish open world that I think developers should be making more of) for the first time in years and ngl. The fact that the radio in that game is so awesome but no two places in the map are ever far enough away that you get to listen to an entire song on your way to wherever you're going did make me be a little like "damn I kinda *do* wish this game was wasting a little more of my time with a pointlessly padded worldmap"
Like if the game had no radio I'd consider it a perfect example of an open world that's just exactly as big as I need go be. But as it stands it's so awkward every time I get in a car to drive somewhere and get there just as the song on the radio is getting to the best part and I'm just like... do I just park the car to listen to the rest of it? Do I just drive around the block a couple times while it ends?
