eddie diaz is the kind of guy who'd figure out he's in love with his best friend, immediately decide that he can't possibly admit this to anyone, and then try to stealthily get advice on how to proceed from said best friend without admitting why he needs it.

no no you're absolutely correct and i think it's a broader tendency of how the world tends to view buck/eddie based on their initial impressions vs the way they actually are. like, eddie seems more levelheaded than buck at first glance, but that's mostly just a veneer for not only The Repression, but also a deep well of stubbornness that he does NOT compromise for anything. while he's good at presenting what HE thinks people want from him, he tends to be less good at actually reacting on a dime and shifting his stance based on what people ACTUALLY want from him, even when they're fairly straightforward about it. he also tends to fall back to snark and anger when he feels backed into a corner, which just feeds into his emotional loop.

Hen propaganda: I am a big gay dyke and I've had multiple (three) people recommend me 911 (before I started watching) on the basis that there is queer rep and the queer rep in question that three (THREE!) people went out of their way to mention to me (lesbian) was BUCK. the thing about buckthena's dynamic is that i feel like there tends to be a compulsion to anchor their relationship to that of their individual relationships to bobby, in one way or another. either buck is bobby's child and therefore athena's child or buck is bobby's dog that athena kind of tolerates. and i think both views are kind of fundamentally misguided because buck and athena have always had their own relationship outside of bobby that informs their dynamic far more than reducing them to who they are to bobby. like, this duo has had their own dynamic since the literal pilot, before bobby and athena ever started dating. their relationship was founded on the ways that their similar strong senses of justice and stubborness combined with their divergent views on responsibility and accountability and authority lead to them clashing and then ultimately learning to respect and understand each other.
