Translation barrier aside, The Untamed nails all its Tension-filled, 'Characters-meeting-each-other-after-a-prolonged-time-apart-and-don't-know-how-to-hold-a-conversation-anymore' scenes.
This lack of communication skills fully reaches its peak when a scene involves these two gay disasters:
WWX is back and pulling his 'I am FINE, nothing happened to me. Oh this? My new black flute, my goth clothes? Yeah that's nothing' routine with the bitchiest responses.
LWJ on the other hand, sees right through this gimmick and his line of action is to go into unhinged confrontation mode.
Their inefficient back and forth continues when they are conversing in public, with other people around.
But the tension starts to dissipate when they are alone. Now there is no need for a facade from either of them. They both can lean into their vulnerabilities
WWX can finally ask, if someone, anyone, if LWJ trusts him? And LWJ can finally offer him help, and this is personal. He is not acting in order to help and protect the cultivation world, he wants to help Wei Ying.
WE THINK THE TENSION IS GONE BUT NOPE.
The dynamic that was earlier 'head on accusatory confrontation' changes to 'Trust me, I know this looks bad, but I know what I am doing', because debuting his new cultivation skills put WWX into a damn coma.
LWJ has finally seen what this new cultivation method is capable of and he will only be conversing in: "Here's the healing mixtape I made you".
WWX does not want any of it, since any doubts on his abilities means that he will finally have to confront the possibility that he is not all that different from Wen Ruohan.
WWX goes back to his 'Who are you to confront me' routine.
He is now starting to push away LWJ, before the full consequences of demonic cultivation are brought to light, and before LWJ pushes him away.
However LWJ is not giving up. He will throw everything he has, at the wall put up by WWX. Angry accusations, actual sword combat, and composing music doesn't work? Okay, then LWJ will just point blank remind WWX of his consistent devotion.
