On: Over-Apologizing
Yaâll...
Itâs not attractive, itâs not the perceived humility you think it is, itâs not effective, itâs not helpful, itâs not making anyone feel any better. But it is making you look small, like a pushover, meek, co-dependent, unconfident. None of those things are particularly attractive in a partner, employee, friend, or family member. So if thatâs you, work on it. Â
I found an excellent article on this website: livewellwithsharonmartin.com
Whether you do it as a bad habit, to people please, from low self esteem, because youâre a perfectionist, you feel uncomfortable sitting with feelings, or you feel responsible for other peopleâs actions, itâs not a good trait to have. Itâs also typically accompanied by codependency, low self-esteem, fear of conflict, poor boundaries, sometimes enmeshment.Â
Step one is always awareness. Truly though, if this is you, step up, work on it, and see what some healthy respect can get you. See what standing up to and for yourself is like. See how others change how they treat you, I bet you wonât regret it ;)
