ICAN fordert Abrüstungsschritte

Seit dem 27. April und noch bis zum 22. Mai tagt die Überprüfungskonferenz des Nichtverbreitungsvertrags von Atomwaffen (NVV) bei den Vereinten Nationen. Am 1. Mai 2026 trugen dort Janina Rüther (ICAN Deutschland) und Jean-Marie Collin (ICAN France) ein gemeinsames Statement der europäischen Zivilgesellschaft vor. Während die Bundesregierung vor den Vereinten Nationen - wie viele andere europäische Regierungsvertreter - wieder einmal die brandgefährlichen Risiken der atomaren Abschreckung verschwieg, hat ICAN das Problem beim Namen genannt.

"Atomwaffen stellen, ebenso wie die Klimakrise, eine existenzielle Bedrohung für das Überleben der Menschheit dar."

Während im Januar 2022 die Atomwaffenstaaten weiterhin noch ihre Absicht erklärten, "ein Wettrüsten zu verhindern, das niemandem nützen und alle gefährden würde", so tragen in letzter Zeit auch europäische Nicht-Atomwaffenstaaten zur Schwächung des Nichtverbreitungsregimes bei. Staaten wie Belgien, Dänemark, Griechenland, Deutschland, die Niederlande, Polen und Schweden stärken die trügerische Sicherheitslogik, die auf der Androhung des Einsatzes von Massenvernichtungswaffen beruht, indem sie auf die von Frankreich ausgehende Zusammenarbeit im Bereich der Atomwaffen eingehen, so die beiden Sprecher von ICAN.

Mit solchen "Nuklearbündnissen" außerhalb der Vereinten Nationen, werden alle Staaten dazu getrieben, Atomwaffen erwerben zu wollen. "Gerade in einer Zeit, in der drei atomar bewaffnete Staaten in bewaffnete Konflikte verwickelt sind, müssen wir uns fragen: Ist dies ein vernünftiger Weg?" heißt es in der Rede. Abschließend stellen die Beiden fest: "Wir wissen, dass die überwiegende Mehrheit der Staaten Atomwaffen ablehnt. Dies wird deutlich durch ihr Bekenntnis zum Atomwaffensperrvertrag, zum Vertrag über das Verbot von Atomwaffen und zu atomwaffenfreien Zonen. Diese Mehrheit muss nun in allen internationalen Foren ihre Stimme entschlossen gegen eine Minderheit von Staaten erheben, die die 'menschliche Sicherheit' gefährdet."
