Many, many people celebrated Pulse. We were told we deserved it. That it was God’s punishment for our sin of loving the same sex. We are sent messages like these I received in 2018:

We in the community often call the victim count 49+ to include the survivors who couldn’t live with the pain.

The event was never officially declared a hate crime or targeted homophobic attack and is rarely listed as one in databases.

At our vigils for those slaughtered, Extremist Christian groups showed up to protest, holding signs like this:

Please understand how much more than just a mass shooting this was. We are still to this day harassed and told we deserved it by some.

I love the shading you've done with this art! I literally zoomed in on Scott's upper lip so I could see how you pulled off the lighting in the particular spot and then I started looking at all of the other bits of lighting and shading you did, like the shine on everyone's hair. It looks so good, and I like how it give direction for each lock of hair, especially with the way Van's hair is pulled back. It's such a small thing, but it made Scott's cloak look really cozy -- like, I like that green and the little leaf clasp holding it together 🖤 I am also in awe because I can see how many different colors you used with doing their hair, particularly Van's and Gian's. It just looks so good and I am taking notes!!

What cracks me up is how Sungchul looks so unbothered with his photograph being take while everyone else is willing to just roll with it and be good sports about it. But NOPE, Sungchul is obviously being pulled along by their antics and I love the idea of him trying to be steady amongst the chaos of Halverton. Like, he was trying to avoid the Drama™ of Seiji and Jesse, but instead he got the tornado of the Halverton boys😂😂😂 I like his and Scott's little bit of eyelash that we can see from their back-facing eye -- such a good detail! 

Not even gonna lie, Van and Gian totally stole my heart with their Legolas and Gimli outfits 🤩 Van looks absolutely ADORABLE with his bow and his pointed elf ears!! I love that he committed fully to the outfit. He looks delighted to dress up as Legolas!! I adore his smile! I love the lines at the corners of his mouth and how proud he looks! Probably odd to say but I like the way you did his hairline too; it's fun because you can really see how his hair is pulled back. And it's super cute how Gian is just popping up behind him and giving his thumbs up! IT'S DARLING. He makes such a good Gimli! (And it tickles me that Gian is HUGE, but he's playing a dwarf... as it should be!!! ✊) I love his beard! You did an AWESOME job with the curliness of it and the way it's got wisps all over the place. And again with the COLORS. I can see how many different colors you used for the dark areas and the parts where the the light was hitting it and then it's natural color too. It just looks so good, and his helmet looks awesome! 

Tumblr en concreto es muy anglocentrista y un gran número de los usuarios no habla más que inglés. Si quieres que tus cosas lleguen a gente con gustos u opiniones similares, escribirlo en inglés asegura que la gente por lo menos lo pueda leer. Suma a esto el hecho de que bastantes series y tal son originalmente de habla inglesa (y a veces ni se traducen a tu lengua madre), lo que crea un fandom principalmente angloparlante.

Más allá de eso, también hay que tener en cuenta las diferencias culturales que surgen entre fandoms de distintos idiomas. Por ejemplo, durante mucho tiempo el fandom de Vocaloid angloparlante y el hispanohablante han chocado con respecto a temas como la piratería. En ocasiones es complicado manejar estas expectativas, y si sabes varios idiomas, peor incluso.

A mí me gustaría subir cositas en español y encontrar a gente que comparta mis gustos, pero en Tumblr en concreto es casi imposible. Tumblr ya es de por sí mucho más «nicho» en espacios hispanohablantes que otras RRSS como TikTok o Instagram, y si tus intereses no son muy populares, despídete.

La lingüística de los espacios de fans también está hipercentrada en el inglés. No es una pareja, es un ship; no es un universo alternativo, es un AU; no es destripar, es hacer spoiler, etc. Incluso las siglas: en español es LGTB, pero lo que sueles ver es LGBT. Parece una tontería, pero esta disonancia cognitiva hace que resulte muchísimo más complicado hablar en tu propio idioma en un fandom. Por no hablar de las innumerables referencias a posts o a memes... en inglés todo, por supuesto. Como te atrevas a hacer cualquier referencia cultural no inglesa, no te entiende nadie. Pierde la gracia.
