Vixen Mag

Vixen Mag is a zine created as an attempt to create an alternative reading targeted for young women, but can be read by anyone with an open mind. I wanted to create something so people could more about some important issues. This is a zine that explores the subjects of feminism, relationships, social issues, personal issues, recommendations of books you can relate to/learn from, music that you can stuff in your stereo, sex, sexuality, current events, all the usual things. This zine won’t be a Seventeen or a Teen Vogue, it’ll be a combination of some of the awesome zines from the Riot Grrrl Movement to now.

Vixen is non-profit but will gladly accept donations that will be used for expanding the zine and printing this puppy out for you guys to have a pretty, physical copy. I will also use this money (if you permit me) for gender/women studies textbooks so I can also incorporate a lot of factual information into this zine. The internet is a great thing and all but I’d like to use a bit of Judith Butler or Foucault here and there.

The first issue for this mag is going to explore bodily autonomy, slut shaming, the basics of feminism, and talk a bit about the filibuster that occurred just a little while ago.

We’ll even include a bit of Comic Con! There’s one panel I’m going to set focus to-The “Women Who Kick Ass" panel, so if you witnessed the panel, have any thoughts about it, please submit!

For anyone submitting, I’m just a poor high school chick trying to get on with what I have so I’m sorry if I can’t pay you but you have every single right to your work of art, and you will be credited indefinitely in the zine. I’ll figure out some ways to reward you for your labors because the fact that you took some moments of your life and made something so rad deserves something so I hope I’ll be able to do something for you! And I do need artists/musicians/writers to interview for future issues so if you’re interested in that, please send me a message!

The zine’s initial first release will be around the end of September to early October

You can submit practically ANYTHING

Anything personal to you will be a very nice thing to add on the zine as I aim to connect with the readers so don’t be shy!

If you submit something, you may or may not be chosen but don’t lose hope! I could save your work for another issue!

Unfortunately some things must have limits but I don't think it'll be such a big problem.

For anything written, if you submit it to us, it must be in .doc or .rtf because .docx is very weird for my computer. Anything written must not take over 2 pages on an A5 size paper. I usually use a font size from 11-14. Font must be AT LEAST the size of Cambaria at 12 as it's somewhat small but still readable. I know some fonts are very odd. I may or may not exclude certain submissions that just go over the limit by a bit. It varies on content but still, it would be kind of you to follow this limit.

I will screenshot your writing if you are using a font you personally picked out. If you submit your text in a regular Times New Roman or something basic like that, I'll choose the font. Please tell me if you want to keep the font you are using or if you give me permission to use the fonts I have at hand. NO COMIC SANS.

For any visuals, keep it as high quality as you can. PNGs are the greatest format I've personally encountered. 300dpi is a total wow if you can. Comics can't be longer than 6 pages. I may make exceptions to this rule if your comic makes lots of points/is very imformative or generally just kicks ass. And I may be putting this on physical, traditional A5 format so send me another file that CAN fit on an A5 paper so your art could physically fit. When you're submitting your art, put a second file with A5 at the end of your file name. I want to be able to keep the image high quality when it's printed.

Remember what I said about crediting you? Well I plan on giving you guys pages of credit! So I would really appreciate it if you wrote a short bio about yourself. Your name, urls of anything (max 5), and just some tidbits about you! Unless you anonymously submit of course.

For music submissions, first of all, keep rocking. If you submit music, I would really like to put it on an 8tracks playlist with like 4-6 other songs or more if we get enough. Keep it on a .mp3 format. I also need the album art and all appropriate crediting which includes

If you are anonymously sending something, pick out a title for your submission, a fake name but I would really appreciate it if you put which state/country you are from as well. Different people from different places and we want to learn what's happening in those places. Example, if you're talking about the Women Who Kick Ass panel from CC, you can do,
