these miis are driving me nuts
things you DO NOT need to be a man
a dick
he/him pronouns

things you DO need to be a man
the swiftness of a coursing river
the force of a great typhoon
the strength of a raging fire
the mysteriousness of the dark side of the moon

sigh go my shitpost
Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”
Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.
if you are a parent, or may become one, or you are otherwise likely to arrive in the situation of caring for a child while they eat, promise me this: if a child doesn't like a certain food or food group, you will ask them WHY. and specifically, you will pay attention to either confirming or ruling out "it makes my mouth itch" or "it makes my stomach hurt," both of which are medically important info that children may not provide unprompted. which i know because this PSA has been brought to you by "i spent my entire childhood and much of my early teens eating peas and lentils while wondering why everyone else liked the Violently Itchy Mouth Sensation so much, like were they a bunch of legume masochists or something, before i finally realized that Violently Itchy Mouth Sensation was in fact a sinister demon appearing only to me, and her true demonic name was: Legume Allergy"
Do not let your child suffer from spicy bananas!
the other day i showed my friend this tweet:
and they were like "it's kind of sad that it's just cosmetic and your miis can't interact with it" and i went "wait but what if the miis were the checkers... OR going back to the original idea, making miis based off of chess pieces" and they were like "omg an entire chessboard island?!" and at that moment i had to be like. okay we need to stop because this is homestuck now. we're reinventing homestuck
just because a concept happened once in a large piece of media doesn’t mean that piece of media owns that concept
homestuck owns every concept ever

OBJECTIFIED CHARACTER TOURNAMENT - ROUND TWO, POLL ONE: FOSSIL VS. COMET
Which character do you like more?
Fossil
Comet
This poll is based purely on how much you personally enjoy the character, NOT how well-written you think they are or which one you consider to be objectively better; with that in mind, vote however you'd like!
I wonder why powdered tomato isn’t a mainstream seasoning. It’d add such a nice little boost of umami without making your food too sugary or vinegary or spicy like other tomato-based food additives would. I just want to tomatey my eggs and toast yknow. tomatey my sammich. tomatey my salad perhaps
listen, I know how to use a search engine so I can see that it exists, and I can get it online if I need it.
I’m mostly curious why such a thing isn’t available in a typical grocery store spice section? At least none of the ones I’ve searched. Like we could be putting this on popcorn why is it not popular!!!!!!

It's fun looking back at Ch 1 with the new speculation spawned from Ch 3 and 4 in regards to how the will of the Knight influences the Dark Worlds. The world contains a forest with otherworldly trees ("lost where the forest would grow"), where Lancer, who laughs like "baby Santa Claus", gets lost ("Ho ho ho! I'm lost AND confused!), and the NPC Clover likes "sports, cute boys, and trees", and has coniferous trees and baseballs in her room. It's very interesting, in retrospect.
Honestly, I never did make the connection there between Clover's interests and Dess's, and that's an interesting one! I really do love how there's always new things to go back and discover in older chapters...I imagine once we finally get to the end and have all our questions answered, there'll be a giant mess of new revelations that come up in the older chapters!
I'm so glad that that truncated fucking ran-into-a-wall-at-speed tadpole-ass looking squirrel only lives in high altitude forests in Borneo bc this means I am extremely unlikely to encounter one in my day to day life. thank god
