In most countries, a LOT of care is taken to make sure that the state can never identify and target people based on their voting behavior or party membership. The fact that it's relatively easy in the US to check someone's political affiliation if they've ever voted in a primary is bizarre.

& like, I'm not saying those systems are perfect. A name and face released 'for urgent reasons' can't be scrubbed off the internet entirely and that can ruin someone's life. The fact that releasing this information is becoming more common in my country, even when there is no immediate risk to anyone's life, is a concern to me. But it sure beats whatever the fuck is going on in the US.
