We just went over our plans for our 2023 budget and like, objectively I already knew that I make a lot more money now than I ever have before, and, coupled with B's income we're decidedly not poor. But after years of making conservative budgets that still required more money than I had, and then having to go back and cut things, it's...god the relief of making a "worst case" budget for all anticipated expenses, putting money aside for retirement and potential unexpected expenses, and bonus things like travel, and then still having money left. I can't describe it. But it's sure as hell happiness. I know for a fact that I will have enough money to get through the year without needing to potentially rely on my parents to pay for an unexpected vet bill or to put new tires on my car. And I recognize that in itself is a significant privilege because many adult children are responsible for helping with their parents' bills and have no one they can go to in the event of an emergency.
